After the latest F1 strategy group meeting yesterday, reports are suggesting a return of customer cars is now being considered as a cost saving measure.
The Strategy group met at Biggin Hill, with the meeting comprising Bernie Ecclestone, FIA president Jean Todt, Ferrari, AMG Mercedes, McLaren, Red Bull, Williams and Sahara-Force India. During the meeting. it's believed that other cost saving measures such as a ban on wind tunnels and cheaper engines have been rejected. This leaves customer cars as the next logical cost saving measure.
Autosport is reporting that the "matter is to be reviewed by the four CCB (Constructors' Championship Bonus) teams - Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull and McLaren - to assess costs and feasibility."
Whilst the discussions at the meeting are yet to be fully understood, these numerous reports on a return to customer cars for the first time since the 1980's will be a polarising cost saving measure. It remains to be seen what the F1 paddock and fan base will make of customer cars, although it appears it may become a much more distinct possibility as the drive for cost saving in F1 continues.
