F1 Challenge 99 - 02

Hey guys, I've run across a very irritating bug in my game. It seems like the LCD is broken. The active LCD rectangle is off the the left of the actual screen space, and when I cycle through the LCD Modes it just keeps stacking itself upon the previous one, making it very difficult to see. Does anyone have a clue of what might be causing this bug or where in the files I should have a look at? I've tried reinstalling it and everything.

EDIT: It seems like I managed to fix it. I reinstalled it (again) but used a different serial number. I was using the one generated by a program with my download file, when in fact I had to use the one provided in the txt file. I hope talking about pirating a game that's not available for purchase isn't against the rules.
I have the same problem as @lodiped , could you drop me a link to your version of the game please? I can't fix the LCD in mine.

I am sorry to report that your "solution" is not, it is not the real solution.

as @skandre7 said:
the solution to the f1 challenge 99-02 steering wheel display screen bug/fail/error
(pink mark, half works and half frozen, static)
:

-open the "3DConfig.exe" file that is in the game folder.
-Choose a resolution of "32 bits" ... the one that suits you ...
-save all (do not use "benchmark" in mode advanced, in 3dconfig)

This will match your monitor and fix the image on the steering wheel screen.

(you reinstalled it ... in doing so you put the 3dconfig as default configuration ... they are not the serial ones.)

Hello together,

I played F1 Challenge '99-'02 in the past for many many hours.

Now I would like to play it on my new PC with Windows 10, but it does not work. After I start the game in the comatiblity mode and with admin rights it happens nothing.

Have anybody an idea how I can start the game?

Would be very great!

Hi.

When I come here to see if there was any comment about the mods that were released, I found that the topics have been moved to an F1 Challenge '99-'02 thread.

Could I know where it is? I cannot find them in "Other Racing Games" subforum. When I try to access it from the notification, it tells me that I have not got permission. I have also read that the link I posted for the download sends you to Facebook, which is not true. It sends you to a Mega link because I remember that I wrote credits and photos. On this website I could not find a specific section for F1 Challenge.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaa.png

I have also read the board rules, and as far as I know, I just broke the third-party link (upload on Mega instead of RaceDepartment)... because this forum doesn't give me an alternative. What's more, I have seen other posts that send you to other third-party websites. As far as I know, those also weren't deleted.

Where I could find the F1C subforum thread? If they were deleted, I will assume they were deleted by error, unless you don't want download links to Mega. But I have seen Mega links around this form, so I only assume another thing: the mods I uploaded are not welcome. From now on, I am not going to post F1C mods here anymore; I will take the contents (developed in three years from more than 15 modders) where they are welcomed and get the consideration they deserve.* Is a pity to do such a thing with a work that was used to give entertainment to the earthquake victims from Elazig, and where I got nice comments from Gjon Camaj itself due to CMTs humanistic qualities. What's more, CMT mods are free and their people reject donations. RaceDepartment doesn't deserve Constrictor.

(I wish you could be warned me at least: it took more than one hour to finish all those posts).

Regards,
Cristian.

*Edit 2022: got a job in the videogame industry in 2021 thanks to my 14 years of experience modding in F1C and the acceptance of those who interviewed me.

I'd like to try this game with the the F1_1950S_CHAMPIONS.rar. I can't figure out how to install the mod, and I don't see how to turn off the auto shift so I can use my G27 wheel paddles. I'm using win10, but ran the game installer with win XP compatibility, and I start the game as administrator with win XP too.

I sort of stumbled on this game and mod when looking for 1950s F1 cars on a video game. Any help would be much appreciated, I often overlook the simplest things that more computer literate people and just take for granted.

Thanks, Jims

Something just clicked as I reread the sort of vague instructions I have. So I've now disabled the auto shift, and my paddle shifters work fine. I'll keep trying the 50s mod after this triumph, but if anyone has installed a mod for this game, I'd sure appreciate hearing from them.
Thanks, jims

Been all sorts of problems with mods on Win 10.

This is still my fav F1 game and the stock game runs perfectly on Win 10 with G29.
Someone mentioned Viper Racing. Classic sim and I still have it installed today. Runs perfectly with Win 10 and G29.

Just reinstalled again.

Feels like bathtubs on ice skates in original trim and the default ffb is shocking,I remember modding the hell out of the original game back in the day with ffb files and grip files, this game released in the era of GPL where the car physics were modelled after ice skaters but that was very hip at the time.

The car has this spin it does that is pre-determined,you have to baby the car around the track.

Way too twitchy,I think I might have some issue with the controls for it to be so slippery like driving on ice,if real f1 cars behaved like this, there would be 12 deaths in each race.

I was more into Geoff Crammond's F1 titles than this back in the day.

Might uninstall again,it actually hasn't aged badly at all, great cockpit view.

The Sports Car mod brought this sim to life imo, that was a revolutionary mod at the time, exciting times when graphics were starting to really evolve.

I remembered Bruce Johnston's mods for the GPL Lotus which started the modding craze

It is now possible to play F1C in DX11 using dgVoodoo 2 ( http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.html ), just download dgVoodoo v2.55.4 (or whatever the latest version is) then unzip it and copy all the dll files from MS folder to F1C game root folder.

Thanks for the advice on using DX11, now I managed to launch the original F1 Challenge 99-02 in 3D using TriDef 3D, it looks good on my SONY 817B with passive 3D.

Hello all! Ok, not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I need to turn off the "moving steering wheel" in F1 Challenge 99-02. I need the wheel to be there, with the HUD on it, but not moving! There was a feature on the F1 Challenge 2000 game that let you turn off the wheel movement, but was later dropped on F12002. On the PLR file, I have set both the driver arms and movable steering wheel to "0" , but they still appear, and the wheel still moves. I have even tried to remove the driver arms in the Default settings file (forget where I found that one), got really wonky graphic results there, yikes............anyway, some other setting in the game is overriding the PLR file info and I just cant figure it out..........any thoughts?

...........and I discovered, when I completely removed "moving steering wheel="0"" from the PLR file and tested the game, it actually replaced that line in the PLR file with "moving steering wheel="1""!!!! Ok, so what other file or process is overriding the PLR file?!?! I need the steering wheel and HUD to stay stationary.......I figured out how to remove the arms and/or the wheel however........but I really dont need that........just to get the wheel/hud to stay still!!! Help??!

Which season? What assists, setup (steering lock especially)
If you wanted to drive without any helps using even slowest 99cars, then yea its slippery, only method that worked for me was neutral/slightly understeering setup with low sttering lock like 8-10deg (12deg being normal when using TC) . Another thing is that many default F1C tracks had huge bumps leading to easy spins. Smoother rF converted tracks come to help (best example Malaysia).

Default FFB is bad, but theres Julien Regnard guide, or try mine set based on this guide
Our discord F1C group has over 300 users now, https://discord.gg/awnA9rt

We even run leagues lol, next one using V8 Supercars mod

It's true that the physics of this game aren't perfect. The cars don't quite -stick- to the track like the do in more modern games where you can drive these older cars. That said, I've managed to get a pretty good set-up in my most recent drive. I'm driving the B199, and it seems to be sticking pretty good. A lot of it has to do with heating up those tires. It's still tough to get a good setup, and the surfaces are bumpy! =D
