PS3 Patch 1 (60Mb) - October 6th - Post Japanese Release, Pre-Euro Release

There appears to have been an audio patch already for the Japanese release of the game, and its on PS3 only @ around 60 megabytes. No patch notes available at this time, but it's believed to be more realistic engine sounds.

PC Patch 1 (8Mb) - October 30th

PC Patch 1 was released on Steam today :-

PC/Steam Wheel Compatibility Update

Added support for:
  • Fanatec V2 Steering Wheel
  • Thrustmaster T300RS
  • Thrustmaster TX racing wheels

To check if you are patched, open the game_version.txt file in your F1 2014 install folder, and check the version number. Patch 1 should read :-

const char * version = "Master Universal.932915 23/10/2014 10:37 "; unsigned int versionNumber = 932915;

YourSteamInstallDrive:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\F1 2014

Will the Classic Content return from F1 2013?

Last year we featured classic content as the sport itself hadn’t changed a great deal and we wanted to offer a different experience alongside the main 2013 content. However, seeing as 2014 has seen masses of changes to the sport itself, which is providing a different F1 experience for this year’s game and the fact that we are also working on a new generation F1 game, we’ve had to take a break from classic content this year. Don’t despair though, classic content is something we’re still very interested in and will explore again later in the series.

*** Please note that as of the time of this post, Codemasters have not released a list of supported wheels and controllers for F1 2014. However it is probably pretty safe to assume that because F1 2014 uses the same game engine (more or less) as F1 2013, then the same wheels will be supported. ***

This post will be updated if Codemasters release an updated list.

Additional recommendations

  • Disable the Steam Cloud for this game. In general, it has caused more problems than it's worth. It is only useful if playing away from home on a different PC or Laptop
  • In Steam > Right Click on F1 2014 and select 'Properties' > Updates Tab > Deselect 'Enable Steam Cloud Synchronisation for F1 2014'
F12014-SteamCloud.jpg

  • If you want to back up your game profile manually. Then you need to make a backup copy of your profile folder :-
  • YourSteamInstallDrive\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\xxxxxxx\226580
  • xxxxxxx = Your Steam ID number
  • 226580 = The F1 2014 profile folder.
  • Alternatively, use GameSave Manager 3 manually, or use it's scheduling feature to back up the F1 2014 data (and many other games, if you wish), at regular intervals.
  • The latest database now supports F1 2014 (added 7th November)
  • How to use GameSave Manager - Tutorial Here
Backups, how do you recover your backup profile when needed?
  • Choose your last known good backup (hopefully you have multiple backups)
  • Start game and delete the existing profile
  • Create new profile with exactly the same name as your old profile
  • Once game has loaded (profile is created and saved), quit the game
  • Copy your backup profile back into Steam
  • YourSteamInstallDrive\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\xxxxxxx\226580
  • Start the game ....... and pray that it works :)
  • Naturally the amount of data you lose, depends on how often you make backups.
How to repair or check your game files if you have problems (PC)

Verify your game files (cache) on Steam.

Right click F1 2014 in Steam > Properties > Local Files tab > Verify Integrity of Game Cache

This will remove any mods, and automatically download and repair any missing, or broken files. It will ensure that you have a standard, fully patched game

Downloading and Installing Mods

There is now a sticky post in the modding section about adding mods to your game. It's a picture based tutorial. It refers to downloading, backups, manually installing a mod, and installing mods using the Ryder Mod Manager

You can find the tutorial here
