Episode 4: One Car, One Lap in 4K Ultra HD

In Episode 4 of the One Car, One Lap in 4K video series our resident alien racing driver, Dragos Haba, returns to the Nordschleife, this time in a McLaren P1. How does it go? There's only one way to find out...

The P1 is a 903 bhp, mid-engine petrol-hybrid hypercar, one of the first and fastest of its kind. Introduced in 2014 with a price tag in excess of $1.3 million, and a limited production of only 375 units, the exclusivity of this stunning beast makes you question why anyone would be so mad as to thrash it around a track with such a reputation as the Nordschleife (especially in anything but a video game!) However, McLaren did exactly this, and set a sub-seven minute lap-time - that's an average speed of over 179 km/h on the nearly 21 km long monstrosity of a circuit!

In yet another wonderful video and quality lap, Dragos attempts to match the time laid down by an incredibly secretive McLaren team, and sets a blinding 6:47.534, with grip at 95%, ABS & EDL on, TC off and Hypercar Road Tyres. At these speeds it's certainly not about the beauty of your surroundings, which can be captivating at the Nordschleife. Nevertheless, to enjoy the video at its best be sure to watch it in Ultra HD quality (2160p)!

Ran a 6:48:687 in a Nissan GTR Nismo GT3 round this track with no assists, so I'll try for a 6:47 in the P1 when I'm next on Assetto Corsa.

Also the lap was done with the Hypercar Road tyres, not the trofeo slicks. The time would have been much.... MUCH faster if that was the case.

I was gonna say, I just did a couple of laps and got a 6:42 on the starting lap coming out of the pits - having the slicks on is obviously why!

There is a lot of time to be gained on the lap, this one is very far from perfect! It is however very fun to drive and it is excellent getting this car sideways.

I have to add - right on with the road tires. TC off + those tires and the P1 really shines. Feels amazing to pull off little controlled slides with 1k horsepower.

Actually, I think I had it on fast and got it to 96%. Just saw from other replies that green is 95% - I was on slicks anyway so the time shouldn't be compared to the video. Gonna give road tires on green track a go later, probably will be miles off the pace shown in the video!

- McLaren P1 now has an active aero brake rear wing as per McLaren latest software update.

should that make times faster or slower ?
I mean does this change the car much compared to how it was when Dragos set this time ?

I thought I was doing pretty well in the P1 but I just tried these road tires on a green track ...
