PC2 Do we need another off-road game?

That is the question. Now Pcars 2 has been announced and once the next couple of patches get released and everybody settles down, do we need another off roader. There are 3 being released this year alone and I'm sure they will be yearly as well. The Dirt Rally early access on PC is shaping up nicely then you have Milestone's Sebastian Loeb which will be crap as all there recent years releases have become and then there is the WRC from an unknown French company which could be amazing or crap. Pcars 2 (On the information I've read) is also looking to follow in the off road theme. How will it compare, compete? Personally, I'd would rather they have gone down a similar road/circuit route for Pcars 2 but that's just my own opinion. Please discuss in a constructive non trolling way

As I understand it, there are several factors to take into account here.

The Seta Tyre Model research focus in pCARS 2 revolves around getting two factors right:

* "Drifting grip" -- how do tyres generate grip when they are spinning wildly? How should that be modeled, simulated and implemented such that it adds seamlessly to the post limit behaviour?

* "Changing Surface Layers" -- the STM is designed to be able to support changing surface layers, be they sheets of water, ice, gravel, sand, rubber marbles etc. How should this track overlay system be implemented such that it offers the correct trade-off between capability and performance?

If things pan out as AJ hopes, the same tyre model will be able to better represent both wildly spinning tyre behaviour (drifting) as well as a wide range of dynamic track conditions such as rain, gravel pulled onto the track from the gravel trap, off-line rubber marbles and even mud and ice (so ranging from normal circuit racing conditions over rally and rallycross to ice rally and dirt track oval racing).

It is worth noting that the SMS Dev Lead is a bit of a rally geek who happens to own a Mk. II Escort RS2000. I think he's pretty keen on pCARS 2 getting that particular car's behaviour spot on as well. ;)
