DIY OSW/steed/DD info request

Hello,
I've been lurking here for a while and mainly readingthe german "virtualracing" forum about the sfx thread.
This resulted im printing parts, and buying a sim-labs black rig that arrived a week ago.

Now, at first i was leaning towards a DD of fanatec, but i kinda changed my mind and would like to build my own steering system.

What i've come up with so far, is the IONI or ARAGON controller, but there are some (many) questions still remain unanswered.

Lenze is preferred due the better inertia compared to Mige, so im looking everywhere for a chap motor, and kollmorgen seems like a good bet also.

Main question to be asked is actually: what is the best controller to buy right now? (as im leaning to the IONI currently due price and current capabilities)
Second: whats with the voltage of the servo motors, ans some controllers work on mains, and ioni works on 48Vdc. Motors usually are 350-700 volts?

can i just pick any servo motor and connect it to an ioni? (or Aragon, or chinese brand xxx?)

Any good to read topics?

I already read Beano's pdf of 45 pages on a diy osw, but it dates from 2014, and time goes fast in tech...

Any help/info highly appreciated, thanks.

ps. looking for black K50 profile... If anyone knows an adress...?

All, thanks for the response. @Bean0: what happened? I see some troublesome answers with mentioning software? Whats going on? Any insights?

I also wonder if one could use one of the china controllers and a mige motor for instance. Whats the difference in regards to the Ioni/Aragon compared to a "china" controller?

Last question: How about voltages? Ioni works on 48 volts, Mige motor is 200-300 volts?

To use 3rd party servo drive you would need to create the FFB USB HID compatible firmware or interface card yourself. Most common a servo drive only has analog/digital or fieldbus inteface, in some you can write custom applications.

I'm new to RD so I dont know if Beano is active on here. I do know hes active on hardware section of Iracings forums.

The best advise is to save the hassle and get SC2.
If you absolutely want DIY, get SC1, it still on some life support from Granite Devices, not sure for how long though as people are actively converting to newer system, at least this is the latest and greatest DIY you can build.
This is the board, they used to sell kits but seem are out of stock now.
You can find more detailed information and some support on Granity forum, here.

P.S.
And it's Argon, not Aragon. :)

Thanks Andrew, Beano,

Why choose sc1 or sc2 over the diy project?
All the info is a bit overwhelming, but isnt the sc1 and 2 the commercialised version of the ioni granite devices into a kit form / ready built ?

I scored a Servo motor today. Can anyone take a look with me and see if it is sufficient for my diy wheel?
Its a Yaskawa SGMSH-40DCA61 with 17 bit incremental encoder UTSIH-B17CC.
Motor specs: 4kw, 12,5Amps, 3000rpm, 400 volt, 12.6Nm.

My intention is to connect it to the Iony HC and 4-way board (for future expansion)
Thanks!

ps. I found a wiki that states the argon goes between 80 and 300 volts, wherethe ioni goes frm 5 to 80 volts. One would think the argon is the way to go then.
On the other hand i read that the servo motor is rpm voltage related, so less voltage is lower max rpm. But... this is a non issue for a steering wheel i suppose.

Any advice?
I have no experience with servo motors and drives.

thanks.

Well, its been a while and a whole lot happened in the world..

In the meanwile i have 2 fanatec rims on order, got me informed on Thanos and have his TDD controller on its way, and dropped some money at mr. Jihang, hoping he will send me my big mige and aasd servo drive.

Now, i have a question. I would like to keep the rims original, and purchase me the wheel base side adapter kit, and the fanatec QR release adapter. So far so good.

Now, i can purchase the QR adapter on the rim side as well for my homebrew rims, but how do i connect these onto my "converted DD " ffb motor? I would like to have them act like they were original rims. Buying the podium hub seems quite an overkill to this actually. Anyone got some advise?

ordered the srm conversion kit in order to use the stock fanatec rims. Cant wait until its all here :)
Hey there! Did you get your build together? How is the experience?
I'm thinking of putting together a system for myself as well.
I saw in the string of posts that first you scored a Yaskawa motor and then moved to a Mige. I want to know why that is?
The reason i as I that Mige is not available where I live, even though we do have authorised Yaskawa dealers here. The Mige costs too much as the shipping and customs here are too high.
So can I not build my DD around a Yaskawa motor?
