Codemasters have confirmed the full list of supported peripherals for the upcoming DiRT Rally 2.0.

The good news for gamers is many of the most common brands look set to be supported from the off, including much of the Fanatec, Logitech and Thrustmaster wheel range - however it is also nice to see direct drive wheel support in the form of the SimSteering and Accuforce wheels - an increasing trend in sim racing as the popularity of direct drive wheels continues to increase amongst the sim racing player base.

You mean like every technology ever invented then, yeah? So what we just didn't use cars when they first were made available even though you wouldn't start one with a crank today?

I wouldn't use this analogy either because, again, VR =/= something essential to racing (neither are triples or wheels for that matter)...it improves the experience but it's not essential. Cars however (or more specifically the automotive engine) are something very much essential to long distance travel...whether you bought one or not, something with an engine took you where you needed to go.

I'll propose an analogy based on an industry I'm familiar with: Audio Engineering.

When the ability to record music digitally came out (late 70's to early 80's), it was not at a level that was ready for recording music in any full scale commercial capacity due to the limited storage capacity of HDD of that era, and the limited capabilities of Analog to Digital converters. It was still used for quick, interesting effects, most prominently in a lot of the 80's electronic drum sounds (since drum hits are very quick, they required much smaller amounts of memory)...but the greater potential for the technology was yet to come: being able to record entire albums digitally and edit tracks or even single notes non-destructively...a huge thing when you realise that the only editing capabilities before this was cutting 2" analog tape and splicing it back together at (hopefully!) the right spot to make the edit sound seamless. Point is, it took the tech about 10 to 15 years minimum to mature as a viable option for full time use and another 5 - 10 years before it started to sound (almost ;)) as good as analog tape.

As I said before, VR has the potential to be the future of gaming (i.e. it might be essential one day) and I'm all for the tech advancing, I'm not a VR hater...but the technology needs to mature some more, it's still in its infancy; regardless of how amazing it is now, I believe it's just a drop in the bucket of what it's truly capable of. Just like some of the more hardcore and experimental (read: niche) musical acts would adopt this digital recording tech early on (i.e us sim-racers)...you didn't see all the A-list recording studios suddenly ditching all their analog recording gear in the mid 80's for this new tech that couldn't record voices without sounding grainy (note, I said recording gear, not instruments...digital synths were everywhere, but they were recorded on analog tape in the end).

We are essentially in the VR "circa 1980's" era and Codemasters is racing's Abbey Road (or insert legendary recording studio here) and Dirt Rally and the F1 series are like the Beatles (hear me out): they're certainly not the most technically proficient musicians ever, but they appeal to a huge global audience and do what they do very well...asking them to play like Yes or the Funk Brothers or the John Coltrane Quartet (i.e. your favourite sim) would be pointless since:

A) that's not what most Beatles fans want
B) Yes, the Funk Brothers and the John Coltrane Quartet (and groups similar to them) already exist, so go enjoy listening to them instead.

Everyone is free to ask for VR support for the games they desire (the petitions I heard about are a good start)...but there are so many VR capable games out there (including the Legendary RBR for the rally fans), that I don't get the constant vitriol hurled at game developers when they don't make every game everything to everybody. I have triples and I have F1 2018 and DR1 (no triple support)...it is what it is, and I play them and accept that triples aren't coming to those games; that's not what they're about...and between RF2, AC, iRacing, AMS, R3E and PCars2, I can find something that works for me, some car/track combo I can spend some time learning and improving on.
 
@johndough247 Imo VR in its infancy destroys any screen setup! you say the tech hasn't matured enough yet everyone who has it is lapping it up and wanting more. If developers don't implement VR then the tech will not sell as well so if you are keen to see advancements in the tech then you should also be banging the drum for the VR croud.
 
They used DBox to record the pacenotes again. So probably will be supported, but I'd suspect SimXperience needs to collaborate with devs to get SC4 working. Dirt 4 supported it at launch

Or don't know if it works with old plugin straight away. I guess we'll see. Definitely hope for SimVibe support it's big immersion factor especially in Dirt Rally (due to jumps)

I see what you mean, but you have missed out the part about VR coming out in the 1990's, so not really in its infancy.
Ok, I guess it is in as far as being at decent level a consumer is happy with, but it has still been out a while though.
Tech, when it gets started gathers speed at an amazing rate and progresses faster and faster and its a ride that both users and material producers should be on or they may miss out and get left behind.
Just look at smart phones for instance, and touch screens. Those who adopted it after it came out (Apple and Samsung etc) are now top of their game, where those who didn't (like Blackberry and to an extent Nokia) have either folded or gone from world leaders to being virtually left behind.

As for The Beatles analogy (not a fan myself), if that's they only music the masses wanted, and therefore nothing else produced, then there wouldn't be much of anything else, which would lead to a boring repetitive world.

VR wont be a massive thing until its specticle size and very cheap. then its mainstream then more developers will cater for it without a thought.thats not for 5-10 years yet ! so anything VR added to a game should be seen as a bonus rather than a must have. especially when you work out the actual player base using it . thats not saying VR isnt good now. its just it isnt mainstream yet. VR isnt new as above i can remember it in arcades in the 90s. so its more a case of getting it right before it does become a gaming standard . at the moment the headsets are too big. too expensive . require a very powerful pc to operate .

Or do I have to like it just because everyone else accepts smaller and smaller amounts of effort for the same price?

Codemasters will reveal the Season 1 DLC content plan on February 12th.

Apparently S1 content will be ALL rally environments (3 of them?), not RX tracks. If true, definitely good news. But can't find official source for that

As for the barrel roll, you can do basically same in Dirt Rally too. (Not saying it makes it realistic, but hey) Probably didn't have hardcore damage enabled. They said on normal damage you can take approx. 3 big hits, on hardcore just 1

Codies probably loose 95% of the hardcore simmers with the barrel rolls alone :)
A clear trait of arcade !

I buy every single Rally game / sim but honestly I don't think it'll live on my SSD past the release of WRC 8 ;)
