Sign me up eh ... no idea about cars, tracks, no h shifter nor clutch (feathering that might help smooth those down shifts??) ... no idea generally but up for a laugh.

First ever 3 or 4 laps on track and in car with my 18 month son on my knee gave me a 1:23, so hopefully get a bit closer with fewer distractions (ie the look back x 3 times, then left and right in quick succession, followed by a few unexpected downshifts and a quick wheel wobble just as I hit the brakes ... bless his little cotton nappies - I'll get him back for this when he is older )

Notes

Following a successful pilot event, which people seemed to enjoy, we're going to try and turn this into a semi-regular thing.

Sign-ups will be limited strictly to 25 drivers with no reserves.

RULES & REGULATIONS

Participants gather on RD Teamspeak in time for the start of the event.

Stock track & car and weather combo will be randomly generated just before the round begins. Taken from GTRe & STCC, you'll need both these expansions to take part.

A 5 minute practice session is given to allow participants to get onto the server - absolutely no running allowed.

Then follows a closed, timetrial qualification with one lap only, no more.

Running order will randomly selected with participants running one at a time. Everyone else will be watching you and commenting on your grace through the gravel traps. :D

If you crash out, you must finish your lap, if possible.

Teamspeak participation is mandatory - event is entirely run through this medium. One or two "listeners only" is fine but I'd rather everyone be able to speak.

Forced cockpit view.

Only default dry/wet simbin setups to be used (if available) - you can adjust steering lock and fuel.

Points, per round, allocated as follows:

Code:
1st 20
2nd 17
3rd 15
4th 13
5th 11
6th 8
7th 5
8th 4
9th 3
10th 1

As for the adjusting the car choice - you've only got the 4 cars to choose from, so if you take a "better car" than the majority of other drivers in any race you're still going to have a worse car in another, so I can't really see any tactical advantage there.

OK, let me explain what I had in my mind speaking about tactical car choice.

Assume a driver (lets call him Nico*) who will not usually get into the points when he races against others in the same car. Lets also assume we have 4 cars that have a noticeable difference. We name them C1, C2, C3, C4 where C1 is the best car and C4 is the worst car.

If all drivers had signed up with a car order from best to worst:
C1 - C2 - C3 - C4
then Nico will choose:
C4 - C1 - C2 - C3
so he will be last in the first race (he would have been in the backfield anyway) but from race 2 on he will always have a better car and might even win race 2, race 3 and race 4.

If Nico were a top driver he would choose:
C1 - C2 - C3 - C4
because there is a good chance to finish at the podium in all races.

I have to admit that these examples are somewhat constructed. The choice of the cars already varies very much and also the layout of the tracks has its influence. However this approach can still be usefull if you want to optimize your races against the majority of the other drivers or against someone you know is at a similar level like you and usually your direct opponent.

*Any similarity to persons living or dead is purely coincidental.
