Charlotte Roval Confirmed For December iRacing Update

iRacing players will be getting their hands on the controversial Charlotte Roval circuit as part of the December update - new previews.

Having made a somewhat controversial debut in the Monster Energy NASCAR this season, resulting in some rather spectacular accidents for much of the field, the part oval, part road course so recently developed at the Charlotte Motor Speedway location is set to make a much anticipated debut in iRacing this December, becoming available as additional purchasable content for the popular online racing simulation when it arrives as part of the big December build update.

Coming in at 2.28 miles in length and containing 17 corners and taking in much of the Charlotte Motor Speedway oval course, the new Roval track is a rather unique combination in the NASCAR series calendar, and is sure to be a challenging and hopefully rewarding new track for iRacing players.

Not much of a NASCAR fan, but I'm looking forward to try out this layout on different cars to see how it feels. I'm curious on how will this track fit sportscars.

Tsukuba Circuit and Charlotte Roval Coming To iRacing as FREE Tracks

The 2019 Season 1 build, scheduled for December 4th, is planned to include two new tracks for all iRacing members – the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval and Tsukuba Circuit. Both tracks will be part of the iRacing base package which means they are FREE to all members.

Also, the crowds have been rebuilt from the ground up and displayed in the video above.

Staff post:
"The crowd system has been re-done from the ground up to significantly improve both appearance and performance. In the previous system, crowd members would only be seen facing the camera directly from the front or directly from the rear. With this new system, crowd members now render from 360 degrees and face towards the racing action rather than towards the viewer's camera.

Each crowd member is rendered from a high fidelity 3D model to a texture with four times the amount of pixels than before. This results in a crisp high-resolution appearance with accurate normal maps and lighting in the sim. The variety has also increased, with over 33% more unique people than before.

Performance wise each crowd member is now an instanced object and takes advantage of this technology to improve memory usage and rendering time."

It hasn't officially been announced yet, but Tony mentioned on the form there MIGHT be a mystery car coming in the build and day to night sounds promising to make it in as well...oh ya and the Dallara F3

I actually like the new Silverstone kind of…but it’s a completely different track than before.

Finally we will have 3d kerbs?
The worst thing in the iRacing is the fake textured flat kerbs (in the Interlagos the way that drivers use it was completely unreal).

And yet they still have an ancient version of Silverstone.
It is known. The legendary speed of iRacing content creation and release. They say slow is fast, or is it slow is wise? The more you wait, the more time you spend there and pay... As for outdated content, I'm sure some folks like it the way it is? You can't argue with them. Ultimately the answer will be "it's fine and usable"

Not forgetting the day/night transitions will hopefully be making an appearance with the December build.
