Alright when was that again.....?

Wow, having a driver be the first to get it is totally unexpected to me considering the amount of protection they are getting in the paddock, much more than most other team members. I guess he got it when he was elsewhere travelling around or socialising, but still, the likelihood of the first positive COVID test in the paddock being a driver and not one of the hundreds of other people just seems astonishing to me.

BBC sport states the team have options but looks like Gutierrez is indeed going.

Racing Point share reserve drivers Stoffel Vandoorne and Esteban Gutierrez with Mercedes.

Gutierrez, who last raced in F1 in 2016, is the designated reserve for this weekend, as Vandoorne, who raced for McLaren in 2017 and 2018, is preparing for the resumption of the Formula E season, in which he is a title contender.

However, Racing Point have the option of picking another driver if they choose, and other drivers are under consideration. The team may feel that they want a driver with more recent experience than Gutierrez.

In that sense, German Nico Hulkenberg - who left F1 at the end of last season after three seasons at Renault, before which he drove for Racing Point when it was known as Force India - would be a leading contender. Hulkenberg was Perez's team-mate at the outfit from 2014-16."

Yes really hard to believe, not sure his lifestyle and not one to pry,
but yes I agree 100% totally astonishing its a driver and not a pit member,
maybe the circles he runs in we might never know I wish him all the best and his family,
kinda a let down was so excited for this Pink Mercedes this weekend,
lets hope Esteban pulls one out for the team.

Most likely got infected at home in Mexico. He was spotted at a restaurants and was seen taking photos with fans. There where pictures on his wife's Instagram but the suddenly dissappeard when the news dropped.

I would imagine every driver bar Stroll, Lewis and Bottas, will be double checking their contracts to see if they can have a go in last years Mercedes!!

Amazing shop window for any driver who gets this seat this weekend and it is going to be dry!

A good chance that someone could be, at least for a weekend the worlds 4th best driver!

I would actually think a driver is far more likely to be the one to get infected first than any other team member. When the racing is over they go off and do whatever they like, routinely interacting with people outside their "bubble".

Most of the regular team members, however, will go back to the factory and start preparing for their next GP. They probably don't interact with anyone outside their "bubble" of colleagues and family.

If he had of turned up at Silverstone and tested positive, they would of shut down the whole race.

They said at the start that would happen anyway were anyone to test positive..
Silly boy.
But at least he found out before getting on a flight.

It's going to be Gutierrez. Clear as day. Stoffel is in Formula E.
Mercedes has zero advantage of bringing hulkenberg back for a couple of races, but can now see their reserves show their worth.

I wish him well.
Even though its a bit strange for a driver to get the virus with all the protection they have, small mistakes that one wouldn't notice are, sometimes, enough to get infected.
Its going to be interesting to see how the reserve driver will perform on the race, maybe we'll see Hulkenberg on the podium
