Assetto Corsa licensing requests

Just noticed on the AC Facebook page that they're soon going to be canvassing for our opinions and suggestions for what manufacturers and models they go in pursuit of next! How cool is that!? It's gonna make for some difficult decisions though; for instance, what do Iwant more - the R8 LMS and the V8 DTM, or the Vantage GT3 and GTE, or the GT-R GT3 and GT500, or the...

It sounds like they only want to do modern cars.

Unless the car(s) in question are real, standout hero or landmark classics for a brand, it wouldn't make a whole lot of commercial sense for Kunos to go chasing and spending a fortune acquiring a niche historic license I'm afraid. Rememberm, they've put a lot of their own cash into the game, so it needs to make a return for them or we can say bye-bye to ongoing support for the sim.

I'd like any new licenses to be strategic to be honest i.e. ones that will expand the game's appeal and exposure around the world. As an example, would a Chevy license gain the sim more attention and users in North and South America? Or would Toyota or Nissan get it some real traction in Japan and the Far East? I'd like to see that. Same with new track licenses - a good geographical spread of interesting tracks would unlock the world for AC I think. I suspect it may be being seen as a bit 'Euro-centric' at the minute. All depends on the funds available to Kunos at the time of course, I know that :)

I hear what you are saying, and I agree with a lot of it. There is going to be limited appeal for an older Nissan say from the 70s than a 60s Ferrari or something. However there will be a licence fee to account for that. It would be far more expensive to licence the 60s Ferrari than the 70s Nissan.

Also, the fact that its so Euro centric isn't a bad thing. A lot of the best car makers and race tracks are in Europe. I certainly don't want to see development time wasted on things like the Bahrain GP and Abu Dhabi GP tracks for example.

So yea, it makes sense to licence older cars as long as they are "big names", so say an Aston Martin DB5 or a Ford GT40 etc.

Obviously it make sense that chevy license would be good for NA market.
But i.e. getting Aston Martin's license, would surely give game more overall recognition.
Aston Martin's brand is by far more recognisable for casual gamers. And surely more desirable than i.e. Honda (sorry Honda fans ;P actually I'd love to drive S2000 in AC).

To be honest I'd like to see in AC half of the brands from the list...

I agree with you as well, and I could spend a week listing cars that I'd love to see put into the game by Kunos, and the cars would get more and more obscure and specialised as I went on; how about the GT300 AE86 that was in the JGTC in the late 90's? Or Reto Miesel's bonkers Judd 190e? Or Vauxhall's Thundersports Carlton that John Cleland raced in the 80's? Or...

But the fact is what I'd like to see more than any of these cars being officially licensed is Assetto Corsa and Kunos sticking around and being a huge success for years to come. And to do that they'll need to see cold hard cash coming back in from it. And I mention American tracks because the US/Canada are such massive sim racing markets. Plus lets not forget that some of the tracks in North & South America are absolutely awesome, and largely unsanitised by FIA F1-level safety standards. Yes, Spa, Monza, Brands, etc. are still king of the hill as far as I'm concerned, but Elkhart Lake and other tracks like that are absolutely awesome too. If the game has to be a bit more 'commercial' than we'd like, then so be it, because it'll be us that ultimately reaps the rewards of its continuing success.

Ramble over :)

I see Alfa and Ruf are edging ahead. Can't say that makes me particularly happy personally (no current race cars, either of them, and despite their exclisivity in the real world Ruf are the poor man's Porsche in the game world), but hey ho, democracy in action...

I have no issue with a RUF in the sim, but am disheartened to see Alfa, Honda and Nissan doing so well.

We need racing cars and quality trackday cars. More GT cars, Radicals, Caterhams.

In their own words.. it's supposed to be "Your Racing Simulator"

I personally find FWD cars boring in most sims. Having said that, I like the Fiat Arbath, though I'd be lying if I said I love it. The fact that Honda, Nissan, Alfa-Romeo, chiefly have FWD layouts on their current cars worries me somewhat.

To be honest I thought that 500 will be boring too. Especially that I didn't like it in nKp.
But I love this little thing in AC... and when you use the handbrake things can get really funny!

Its not heading the right direction with silly road cars like Alfa etc at all in my opinion.

I think they're acutely aware of the popularity of the GT3 cars and of the competition cars in general at the minute. Look at the cars we've got already. Plus, they don't say if this will be the sole driver of their future strategy either. I'd be very surprised if we didn't see a lot more GTs licensed in the future.

But yeah, Alfa = meh to me. They may have a lot of history, but their current lineup in the UK at least is extremely dull.
