Kunos Simulazioni have deployed the fifth major build update to Assetto Corsa Competizione today - adding the Emil Frey Jaguar G3 and Circuit Zolder to the simulation.

I suppose anyone who has a passing interest in sim racing has already downloaded, installed and played the new update already, so this article is pretty much preaching to the converted, but just in case you are not still immersed in the new update on your gaming PC, here's the details for what comes included with build release number five:

Release Five Notes:
  • New Emil Frey Jaguar G3 car.
  • New laser-scanned Circuit Zolder racetrack.
  • New special events with online leaderboards.
  • Fixed disappearing main menu UI in VR.
  • Texture memory optimizations.
  • Fixed a chase cam rotation bug.
  • Fixed a TV camera bug.
  • Car light improvements in TV camera views.
  • New inertia calculation method and new more accurate inertia value (advice for setups, use a softer fast damper to let the body move and settle, instead of having the car and wheels jumping)
  • New motion ratio calculation for dampers resulting in more accurate values dedicated to each car.
  • New ABS feature. ABS now never let’s higher than 70% difference between left and right brake pressure. Improves behavior on extreme torque vectoring, like braking and going through a water puddle with one side of the car, but can result in inner wheel locking if driver insists braking hard while turning into a turn. Might need more rear brake bias on certain cars.
  • Improved ABS logic, resulting in better turn-in under braking, on certain cars (most notably modern cars such as the Huracán, F488, BMW M6).
  • Improved TC off on gear-change functionality. TC is instantly switched off and on again when a gear change occurs, in order to protect the engine and drivetrain from heavy vibrations,
  • especially on situations where kerbs and the engine limiter are involved (part of real cars’ TC logic too, occasionally they will even not allow the gearchange). Now the TC off timing is car-dedicated and optimized. Some cars might handle a gear change better than others.
  • Improved tyre thermal model, especially wet tyres.
  • Improved tyre grip when tyres are overheated, such as after a spin.
  • More tyre wear when tyres are overheated, no free meal.
  • Corrected bumpstop position and functionality of the Ferrari 488 GT3.
  • New ECU maps for all cars. ECU maps now influence power, fuel consumption and throttle maps. Usually, the lower number is the more powerful and has the most power consumption. After the initial 3-4 values, it switches to wet ECU maps with similar power and fuel consumption but different throttle maps. Please check the official forum for all the released cars’ ECU map characteristics.
  • New launch control for all cars. Now with manual clutch, just engage 1st gear, put the clutch and accelerator to the floor and the engine will stabilize around 5000rpm. Release the clutch gradually while keeping the accelerator fully open to avoid stalling.
    Audio engine optimizations
  • Fixed potential wrong volumes switching cameras
  • Fixed time multiplier for the end race replay
  • Fixed wrong track map cars position during replay
  • Intro sequence updated

Now that isn't too bad of an update change log is it?

Thanks for the suggestion, but what do you mean by a "remote" and "going to power"? I have only a steering wheel, pedals and a computer keyboard and mouse (no joystick).

Could you be more specific on what you mean? Do you mean that I should look in a SteamVR menu rather than an in-game menu in ACC?

Thanks.
Dude , launch the game into 2D mode and map a button for vr centre view ; sounds like you have accidently unmapped the shift spacebar centre vr view.

There's a bug with the Jaguar sound, apparently using some of Lamborghini sound samples by mistake. They said a hotfix is coming

But sadly performance is still not great for me, after texture optimizations. And I hope they could further improve the TAA sharpening filter

Zolder track well done! Been there (IRL) many times and even did some 'races' with my two wheeler. Yep the elevation changes and in VR good remodelled. Now it's evenmore fun to visit the Roadhouse on top off the hill with a nice view.

I see we still run the RD championship for pointless exaggerations.

I run VR smooth and with growing visual quality since first release. Either one likes it, or not. But "unplayable", and telling that as if it is generally so for everybody - that is completely pointless a statement.

The Zolder track is great. The car turns like a brick on locked wheels. The Jag most likely will not become my thing.

Have we found a VR user that isn't completely self-entitled and nagging all the time?

Well done to you.

New update runs good, looks great and feels nice. ACC is growing up just fine.

Gave the update a quick spin yesterday and I quite like it. It's not quite where I want it to be in terms of performance at the moment like many others have pointed out but hey, it's a 0.5 early access title. The nitty gritty of optimization work probably hasn't even been started yet. ASW kicks in a lot but it sure beats no VR at all.

So with that out of the way, Zolder was unsurprisingly really well done, the accuracy of the iRacing track combined with the atmosphere of Raceroom and Project Cars. It's a bit of a shame SRO is dropping the track from this years calendar but at least it will live on ACC. All I need now is a commentary track from John Watson about Gilles Villeneuve to the background of the engine roars. :)

As said earlier, Jaguar is fun car to drive, but there is still missing something.
I always drive with TC on off, at least now when discovering the game and its limits.
All the following does not refer when driving with TC on ON!
What I don't like about all ACC cars is that when going into a (uncontrolable) slide, they are very very hard to catch. I just wouldn't expect that from a puropsely built race cars. In AC physics feels different, more natural.
I just harldy imagine driving these cars in a races with a fast and constant speed.
It seems like they just wait for your slightest mistake, so the things go all wrong in an instance. They are not forgiving at all, when driving on the limit.
Does anyone else find the same?

Talk with real life drivers and they confirm that although those cars have tons of grip, they drive on the limit, and the difference between grip and gone is very small.

So yes, this is probably how they are supposed to be.

Purposely built race cars with TC/ABS, from my understanding, are optimized for driving with TC/ABS. For example the engine maps can be more aggressive, when 99% of the time in the competitive scene drivers use those driving aids (set up to their needs, the professional drivers probably use much less intrusive settings), because why would they put themselves into a disadvantage? Furthermore, especially in endurance, you are rarely on the absolute limit.

I have my problems with ACC, but from a driving perspective I feel it's really one of the best. The cars are very engaging, there is so much depth to them. I usually drive GT3s with TC, but yesterday I gave the Jag a run without TC to see its limits. Naturally, the tail wants to overtake you if you are aggressive with the throttle, but I think it's normal. When losing control, keep in mind these cars are on slicks, and with limited steering angle, once you lose control you have to act fast, or it will bite you. I usually have more problems with understeer than oversteer.

It's funny, in e.g. AC I can't drive the F2004 without TC quickly and consistently, while I can drive any other F1 car that doesn't have TC without any problems with oversteer. I think it really must be connected to engine maps or something similar.

Looks good. Will do my best to try this release at least. Skipped release 3 and 4 as I was playing other Sims with my Sim time.

„Sim time“ that‘s the reason. Not at home to figure out EA 5. It seems to be that there are no
remarkable improvements except the new attempt to code the MP part again. Ok, for that I invest my sim time in AC & shader_patch

For me right now I will more than likely skip this month with ACC it just looks bad and drives horrible with this build, it's definitely the worst build to date..:cautious:

On Oculus I get the same issue the same issue but can be fixed by using the "reset view" function from the Oculus software (not ACC's center view). Is there a similar function with WMR?

Yes. In Windows Media Reality window, press the icon to open the settings in the left, click -> run setup -> seated position -> CENTER
