Another new Assetto Corsa Competizione hotfix update has been released by Kunos Simualzioni today.
  • Build 1.6.2 now live.
  • AI speed improvements.
  • General fixes.

Kunos Simulazioni have deployed a second hotfix build to Assetto Corsa Competizione following the recent 1.6 update of the simulation, and with it comes a number of small tweaks and fixes for the simulation following the last major release.

One of the most interesting changes within the update notes relate to some potential AI pace improvements when racing against the computer on high skill level settings. Of course pace is all relative to the individual user, but it is good to see Kunos reacting to some parts of the community looking for a more challenging racing experience against the AI.

Other notable changes within this new build include physics tweaks to the Audi R8 GT3 EVO and Mercedes-AMG and McLaren 720s cars, and various graphical fixes as detailed below:

Assetto Corsa Competizione 1.6.2 Update Notes:

General:

  • Fix for a potential crash when loading multiple gallery replays.
Gameplay:
  • Potential improvement to general AI pace at high skill levels.
Physics:
  • Audi R8 GT3 Evo front damping motion ratio correction.
  • Mercedes-AMG GT3 and McLaren 720s GT3 rear suspension motion range tweaks on extreme loads.
Graphics:
  • Fixed a missing LOD assignment for the Audi R8 LMS Evo.
  • Removed flashing animation from the pitstop sign.
  • Various livery fixes.
  • Fixed an issue with opponent car LOD flicker when using mirror resolution settings.
UI:
  • Minor localization fixes.
  • Radar now always visible even when the HUD is hidden when enabled.
  • Special Events DLC evaluation check.

For the sake of transparency:
We have a number of improvements in testing related to the AI's ability to attack lapped cars (which is currently erroneous in the live version) and also a heavily toned down version of the lapped car helping the case by not defending (which is currently completely disabled in the live version).

Beyond this, the AI should perform according to their best abilities in Q sessions (will not affect race pace) and they should be able to better recover from spins that don't block them from movement and not teleport (reported in another thread).

Overall AI pace unfortunately remains to be limited by their ability to navigate around the track, and tracks with certain corner types (especially those that require momentum driving) will remain to be problematic pace-wise, so don't expect miracles here.

Maybe I am confused. People bitching about the "AI" not being human (hence the term "AI"), people who race online bitch about driver ratings and "unskilled" drivers crashing other people out of races. What the hell is everyone looking for out of these games ?

Yes, you are.

I never mentioned "human like" AI behaviour. Otherwise I would play online.
What people says about online races has nothing to do with my post.

It seems you just don´t know how a proper AI should behave in a racing game.
 
For those still asking for even more aggressive AI, having AI constantly fighting each other will slow them down even further, you can already see that in 1.6 vs previous builds. Beware of what you wish for.
 
Guys...the problems of the AI, that are existent right now, have nothing to do with "human" behaviour, but with steps taken back from before the changes, that were made to it. It's missing the point right now.

OK fair enough. I understand everyone's experience differs and yes I didn't run any qualifying sessions with the new update (or ever) so I can't speak about blocking drivers on fast laps (although that happens IRL as well), but as for my experience I did run a couple GT4 sprint races last night at 100% difficulty and I believe 90% aggression and experienced no problems, they raced hard and mostly fair. I couldn't tell you what their overall pace were before the update as I raced exclusively online before recently...or if GT4's were even affected, not sure if you meant GT3, GT4, Cup or all classes.

when i click the "Options" button it takes a **** load amount of time to open
same for the settings to be applied inside options menu when i click the apply icon top left of screen.
any other has same problem ?
it appeared since version 1.6 if i remember correctly

Updates are a good thing, let's hope their is much more to come, so it will keep improving and we can keep enjoying this great SIM for many moons to come. :)

It depends on your point of view.

Updates are good things in general if you have experience improvement. But it looks like each uodate brings new bugs and they are releasing hotfix for that.

If you could count like me, you can see that with the sum of update files you can make a new game or major difference to the game. But I couldn't see any major improvement yet considering the number of updates.

I have it since EA days and it certainly has improved very much, and luckily they keep developing the sim, like reize do with ams2, which also had quite a few updates in its short lifespan, which also is great, i would feel cheated if i buy a game and there are 1 or 2 updates and then move on
 
To be fair, you also have to mention, that it has been downgraded (just for now, hopefully) in other ways.
No reaction to blue flags is the biggest thing for me, breaking it right now. When you are on a qualy lap and AI is stubbornly blocking your apex again, instead of keeping itself off the line. The absence of this feature also can lead to the slow-car-not-lapped train again in endurance situations.

Also, that it has decreased in pace is absolutely true. (Also with 1.6.2, but they are still looking into it, with side note, that it may stay problematic) On some tracks, the AI (especially 2020) is 1-2.5 seconds off, if not more. (Imola is exceptionally problematic with AI hitting high 1:44 times, which is more than 3 sec. off pace to IRL times in qualy)


With higher aggressivity (not highest!!), the good ol' pit maneuvering by AI, like in AC is back, they divebomb you, which kinda made me understand, why AI was so "calm" and "unracey" before the changes.
^These points are a matter of fact.

After the first 2 laps settle down, the general fighting of the AI decreases a lot though and it indeed looks rarely like on Stefano Casillos streams, when AI against AI is fighting. Against player it even feels a bit overdone sometimes, though.

Yup, pace also increased a bit and the pit maneuvering is gone again here.^^

Imola still has some hickups and GT4 AI could be a bit faster, but overall, the (amazingly fast) hotfix improved it to a "not frustating" level again. (for me at least, i still think though, that very fast ACC single players will probably still peace out on track, even at 100) :D
