The McLaren driver apparently hit a wall at the Circuit de Catalunya circuit at lunchtime on Sunday on the exit of the 150 mph Turn Three, but the BBC report that he is "OK and conscious".

Reports say he has been airlifted to hospital from the circuit's medical centre, but it is claimed it is just a precautionary measure after the crash.

"Fernando Alonso crashed in the end of Turn Three. The car has gone back and crashed into the wall," a statement from the circuit said.

Was the chopper really needed? Anyway, I think you're right:
It was on an outlap according to Peter Windsor and the F1 app, so 150 kph sounds more logic. And the damage was not so big.
If I'm not mistaken they tried to pull off a few laps in the car, after
the accident, but didn't make it.

He was apparently unconscious, or at least not fully conscious, because he is ill.

So the concern is not with the minor crash he had, but rather how serious the illness is that he has.
