A little project I'm working on...

No money, no team racing.
Hello Champs!

Okay, I could use a little help here. Me and a good friend of mine is gonna start working on some "rally videos" soon. And when I say "rally" I mean, take a hill climb track (or similar) and then pick a fairly high speedy car. GT/Ford Escort V8 etc etc.

I'm gonna drive, and my friend is gonna be the "co-driver" reading the notes. And we are gonna record this. Well, not place a camera and film us (because we don't own one), but we gonna record the voice and the gameplay, with fraps. And then upload it to the tube, for you to watch :whistling:

Now, I don't really know what car to pick, but it will likely be a different one for each track. We see.

Anyway, I have been practising alot to try to drift. I think alot of corners can be taken faster, and it will also look more awesome that way, LOL.
Since I only own a G25, I have assigned the "handbreak" to the left paddle. (in case I have wrote the name wrong, it's the left down-shifting thingy on the wheel)

Here is my problem. I don't drift at all. In fact, I don't feel any difference. Car does not even slow down on a straight when I activate it. Well, I guess there is some settings to be done with the car or?. But shouldn't there at least happen something when I activate it? Now, I don't own a license driver yet, nor a car. So I don't really know how it works IRL. But since I have seen ppl do it, I wonder if the same rule apply. Do I need to hold the paddle, or just just activate it? (like pressing a button).

in what phase do I need to do it as well? I think I have a pretty good idea, but any help is appreciated.
As it is now, I actually drift more by downshift to like the 1st gear and hope the car will behave the way I want. But it would be more awesome if I actually could drift.

Okay, maybe you guys can give me some pointers to this subject.

the handbrake in race07 works, but in most cars there is no handbrake (racecars rarely have one). hint: you can bind a key to the handbrake in the settings menu.
example for a car with handbrake is the BMW E30 from the wtcc87
Quote from the BMW E30 hdc:
HandbrakePressRange=(0.00, 0.05, 21)//
HandbrakePressSetting=15

Quote from the F3000:
HandbrakePressRange=(0.00, 0.05, 21) //
HandbrakePressSetting=0
as you can not alter the handbrake setting in setup, the F3000 has none, the E30 has.

greetings,
Neteye

AFAIK, it's disabled later in the game engine global settings anyway.. It could be used to cheat faster laptimes due to brake temps not causing failures (you can heat them past 4000C on some cars without a failure..)

The parameters are there but anything you change will be reset to '0'.

Here is a little quick and dirty handbrake movie :) driven with keyboard :confused: with the E30 :thumbsup:

Watch it in HD, so you can better read the XD :)
I would be confused if i could bind keys to functions in the menu, that are not in the game then. Maybe happens on Betas or so, but definetely should not happen on released games.
With the brake bias full to the front, i brake 2 times. Once with the normal brake, with the expected effect: The front locks, the brake temperature rises mainly(!) on the back, car is stable.
Then with the handbrake: The rear locks, the brake temps only(!) rise at the back (front even cools down), car breakes loose in an instant.
Also notice the feet, normal brake: Right foot on the brake. handbrake: No foot on the brake (only shortly when i touched the normal brake).

Greetings,
Neteye

Edit: I dont know how you would get better laptimes with the handbrake in normal cars, but you probably could use negative values in the "BrakeTorque=", so you can accelerate with the brake (wow, thats confusing), with the effect of the rising brake temperatures. the really hot brakes, like the 4000°C ones, should not have something like a brake effect when used, as they are way above BrakeOptimumTemp= + BrakeFadeRange=, which affects the brake torque based on the temperature. or you again make crazy stuff with these values ;)

Wow, never knew that.. once again you prove me wrong and in a case where i like the truth :)

I don't know what the trick was, as i understood it had to do with trailbraking with handbrake or something like that, not a direct cheat but unrealistic. Don't know the details, just something i can remember overhearing.

Thank you guys! You've been really helpful! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Sadly, the project has been postponed. My co-driver just started at a new job, so he ain't got time to read notes for me! :(:(
The project is still on thou, we just don't know when out first stage will take place. It could been this upcoming weekend, or it can be in 3 months!
:rolleyes::rolleyes:
