Kunos shows more of their eagerly awaited sim at Misano.

During recent Blancpain GT Series race weekend at Misano (22 - 24 June), one of the main points of interests, aside from the thrilling race itself, was provided from Kunos Simulazioni, which brought a tech-demo of their new title, Assetto Corsa Competizione, to the Italian venue for people to try. AK Informatica provided the necessary simracing cockpits that were installed in the paddock, with the developers on hand for suggestions and feedback from both professional drivers and casual users.

The demo was somewhat different from the one showed at the E3. The players could still choose between two different hotlap challenges (being one in dry and one in damp conditions) and two different race setups (first one was a race ran under bad weather; second one a race held at dusk, transitioning to night time). The cars available this time were the Ferrari 488 GT3, the Lamborghini Huracán GT3, the Mercedes AMG GT3 and finally the Audi R8 LMS GT3. The track was obviously a laser-scanned virtual recreation of Misano.

The footage captured shows the demo running under all of the previously cited setups, while cycling through all the camera options available in game.


The AI looks to be driving fairly nicely, and there are no signs of major issues with their algorithm. As a note of criticism, they also look very static and not that much aggressive though, being mostly content with following one another. They also seem to attack curbs, especially under wet conditions, more than it would be feasible in real life given the same circumstances. The same was also possible for the player. Developers were re-assuring that the behaviour of the AI in this demo was tweaked ad hoc and that this specific matter was intentionally present so to avoid them having troubles running correctly around the track, while backstage they are working hard on polishing their code. The issues just mentioned, according to them, will not affect final release.

Professional driver, competing with Attempto Racing in an Audi R8 LMS GT3, and enthusiast sim-racer, part of Team Redline, Kelvin van der Linde, was able to test the demo, and gave a very positive feedback about it, being overall impressed with the quality of the new sim made by Kunos.


Assetto Corsa Competizione should be available on Steam Early Access Summer 2018.

It's not about "NDA" - it's about my parents who told me what do do and what not do do.
I don't want anybody to quote posts from me - when I posted them in a closed forum - and, thus, I won't quote other people.
I'm sure you'll find the answer to your question with a little bit of effort.

Come to think of it, SRO (owners of Blancpain GT and creators of the GT3 format) just bought WC Vision (owners of Pirelli World Challenge) as well. DLC could include Blancpain Asia, but more importantly it could feasibly be expanded to include Pirelli World Challenge now. And PWC doesn't just do GT3, they've also got a very healthy GT4 category and Touring Car categories. Plus they race on the greatest circuit in the world: Mosport.

That would be amazing.

That is my dream for sure. I follow both Blancpain and PWC series all those tracks and cars would be totally amazing with the new weather and graphics. Looks and sounds great.
 
Almost 5 months on and some people still haven't got their heads around what ACC is. It's 12 years on from GTR2s release, so I guess many new simracers have no experience of a sim just simulating a real racing series. As someone who's been around since Crammonds Grand Prix on Amiga, ACC is a return to the good old days :)

We have Assetto, Iracing, Project Cars 2, rFactor 2, Raceroom and Automobilista... 6 sims with no focus on a specific series which instead offer a variety of cars from wide range of types and years.

Kunos now decides to offer something different, focused on a specific series (officially licensed), which is something many have been asking for since the good ol' days of GTR2, and yet people complain that ACC isn't the same as the other 6 sims already on the market?

Why? Whats the point of making every sim the same?

When you focus all your resources in a single car-type you can, in theory, take things much further in depth, detail and realism, than if you have to split and adapt your engine to work across a wide range of cars. Not to mention all the information and inside-knowledge that Kunos will only have access to thanks to their official deal with Blancpain.

The possible result of this focused attention excites me, even if GT3 is not necessarily my favorite class. And if it didn't, the other 6 sims I mentioned in the beginning are all out there in the marked ready for me to play them, so I don't see what is there to complain about.

To be fair raceroom has the DTM + ADACGT (minus Ferrari and Porsche) experiences which is why I actually got raceroom! Although to be equally fair they dropped the separate experience side of things and incorporated them into the main game (which was something I didn't like if I'm honest, I preferred clicking on the experience and having it all there, now I have to setup a custom championship)

I'm a big PC2 fan but no, from the AC forums it's clear that they plan a full evolving racetrack, also with the rubbered in race line being slippy in the wet. Sounds really good.

I actually think Kunos have been really smart, with a limited number of cars and tracks they can fine tune the tyre behaviour. PC2 is awesome but I still think most of the flaws are from the sheer amount of different car/tyre/track combos that have to be tweaked. If ACC can get anywhere near PC2 than it will be fantastic, if it can surpass it then it's a target for SMS and PC3 (and the others) to match/beat. It's cool we have these awesome dev teams fighting each other and innovating and adding in as much realism as possible. Great times to be a sim racer, I can almost literally select any track I like and any car I like in my sims and have a blast.

if they do have livetrack at least their AI will be affected by it.
That would illogical cause this would be more performance impacting than implementing it first for player. Project CARS 2 showed that aswell, they implemented a less sophisticated tire model for the AI than for the player in order to hit performance goals.

I think its awesome that both sims have dynamic puddles. Now rF2 plz introduce it aswell :)
Its also great for competition (xD) they push each other for new technology, more accurate / realistic behavior and more immersion :) great times for sim racers.
Project CARS, Assetto Corsa, rFactor are great sims in that regard :)

One of the biggest flaws beside the inconsistence of the FFB is the AI have not to follow the same physics like the player.

The try to turn this issue into a good thing is illogical :thumbsdown:

And how many sims have the same physics for the Ai and the player? I believe AC is the only one, all the others either have NO ai at all or simplified physics for the Ai. Even then how long did it take to get the Ai in AC to a decent level? About 5 years I think. It's all about resources and time management. So it's not a "flaw" it's something "you" don't like.

yup Natedog disagreeing again, so back it up Mr, are you disagreeing AC has player physics? Or that there's another game that uses players physics?

Maybe but I still think other titles handle it better as PC2.
To call it an advantage in case of PC2 its still illogical in my opinion.
Especially for a team like SMS which should have much more experiences in terms of AI as Kunos.

Don't get me wrong. The AI of AC is far far away from perfect.

To be fair no title has the sheer amount of cars/tracks/tyres and weather conditions that PC2 has. Doug Arnao has a lot on his plate. And going by the general standard of Artificial (un) intelligence in the gaming world it's not all that bad.

oh mr "disagree" Natedog surfaces...come on then what game comes with more cars/tracks/tyres/weather than PCars 1+2?

Jesus don't you just hate people who disagree then don't back it up with reasons? No reasons = no real argument.
