2016 Formula One Spanish Grand Prix

So
It was certainly Nico's fault. If you watch the slow mo replay you can clearly see ALL other cars behind Nico were on the far left side of the track approaching that turn, Nico saw Hamilton attempting to pass him on the right side of the track and tried to close the gap resulting in Hamilton having nowhere to go. It was a bold move by Hamilton to pass on the right side because he might have been in a bad position even if had made the pass going into the turn, but Nico was clearly not on the racing line that every other driver was taking behind him and it was clear because he was so focused on blocking Hamilton that he drove him right off the track.

No way that was Nicos fault he leads the race he can take what line he likes, end of story.

Makes you wonder how Nico in the wrong mode ever got the lead.

From the startline Lewis blocked to the right then he went far left then he came back to the right again running down the pit exit lane and effectively narrowed his turn in angle for T1.

Martin saying Lewis was on the "ideal line into Turn 1" is dreaming.
Nico was on the optimum line.

Stewards last word.

Rosberg "had the right to make the manoeuvre that he did"

Hamilton ".............. which may have led him to believe he had the right to space on the right "

In other words, he never had that right.

End of story

Pass whatever you're smoking. He was right in the middle, not on the racing line but not far right enough to defend an overtake.

No matter though, he'll find a way to choke this season away as well.

I was not talking about Turn 4 :)

I was talking about Turn 1

imho Lewis compromised his entry into Turn 1 by weaving too much
and ended up a tiny bit too far into pit exit and left himself stranded ,
while Nico came through on ideal line.

If Lewis had taken his normal approach, nailed the start, went straight
( after all that is the fastest way between 2 points lol )
he would have grabbed T1 and the power settings would have been non issue.

:)

He had a seasoned former world champion behind him for at least 15 laps, in DRS window, in a car with a faster topspeed, and managed, every single lap, to widen the gap in the corners enough that Kimi couldn't catch him on the straight.

If that's "not really a hard victory" then I'd like to see what else would be in your view.
Exactly. Very hard for such a young driver to have a former world champion crawling all over you.Max never put a foot wrong, astonishing talent.

driver fatigue has a play in it and so do the tires, yet the 2 different cars were very equal throughout the weekend, so you can't just say that Max was driving in a disadvantage just because he was in front or has less top speed.
It's mental fatigue and stress that's the difficult thing to cope with. He's trying to drive as fast as he can, while making no mistakes and having one eye on kimi at all time.

Nico can take whatever line he likes, but its blatantly obvious when he's so far away from the line that EVERY other racer is taking just to block Lewis.

This article sums it nicely and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see who's at fault here.

IMO it is a race incident. Both are to blame for this one. Nico for shutting the door and not setting the car in right mode before the start. And Lewis should know that a race isn't won in the first lap but it can be lost in the first lap.

And about "our" Max. He drove brilliantly withstanding that pressure from someone like Kimi for so long that is really impressive.
