A few new changes have been announced for the 2012 IndyCar season:

- Qualifying for Iowa speedway will be done by heat races rather than single car timed laps. Details have yet to be finalized.

- Restarts at Indianapolis, Texas, and Fontana will be single file rather than double file.

- Standing starts will be tried at road and street circuits 'later in the season'. ( I am guessing they will start this either at Detroit or Toronto.)

- 'Push to Pass' (100 HP gain) which was to 'overtake assist' (10-20 HP gain) will NOT be present at the start of the season.

- Of course we have the new DW12 Chasssis, with Lotus, Honda, and Chevy Turbo 2.2L V6's replacing the Honda 3.5L NA V8's.

- An IM system will complement radio for communication between race control and the teams. Team managers will be able to directly contact race control via IM.

- Johnny Unser and Arie Luyendyk have joined the 'Race Control' team of Barnard and Barfield (who will be the chief steward).

I don't like the fact that they change race format inbetween races but I also have to understand that oval and road course procedure has always been extremely different so I'm willing to overlook it.

I'm personally excited for the new indycar season. Lots of talent this year and if Rubens gets officially comfirmed i'll keep a strict eye on him

He will not be classified as a full-season rookie - but will be for the Indy 500, and will have to complete an oval test and Indy 500 rookie orientation - he said being a rookie for the 500 "makes me feel young".
