Priaulx gave a good showing last year so i wonder how arguably the best Porsche pilot in the world R. Westbrook will adapt to a V8 SC,if he "clicks" with it we are in for a show!.
Any more news on the BMW interest in the V8 series?,seems kind of unlikely now with the DTM confirmation,but then again,its a vast and different market for the other side of the globe maybe? .

He adapted pretty damn well to the Ford GT and Nissan GTR.

Not fully confirmed which drivers pair up yet. Priaulx is likely to be quicker than Bourdais but Lowndes teamed up with Andy last year.

Priaulx has alot of experience in our V8's, actually, he's driven Bathurst for the last 3-4 years, personally I think, having looked over the list a few times, as much as I want Garth or Lowndsy to win, Winterbottom and Power have the best lineup so far.

Interesting to see who James Courtney gets.. He's had a bloody shocking season..

1)what's the best way to travel from Sydney to the circuit?
2)How many people will visit the race?
3)Do I need to make reservations if I would like to spend the night in Bathurst? What would be a good hotel/hostel?
4)Can I buy a ticket on race day and what would be a good ticket? Is general admission any good? Are there good spots to watch the race or do I have to buy a ticket for the grandstands?

Well, i havent been in a while, but i can give some little hints on some of those questions.

First up, travel by car is easiest. Otherwise, its by bus, and i know which is more comfortable.

A lot of people go, it can get quite busy on the roads and stuff around the event. You should definetly book ahead if you want accomodation. And if you want a grandstand ticket you probably should book ahead.

However there are other options. You can camp on the grounds or nearby cheaply, and this would give you the opportunity to view from more unconvential places on the track pretty much from your tent all day. Though the view wont be as good. Skyline or across the top of the mountain is good, plenty of action to be seen up there, but it does get quite crowdy and rowdy lol.

Ultimatley its up to you how you want to do it. The best way often is to go once, suss it out and have a blast, and then go again the next year with knoledge in your mind of whats the best plan. Or see if you can go with someone who's gone before

1) Driving is best. About 3 hours or so from Sydney.
2) Cant give you numbers but a lot.
3) Def need reservations, hotels/motels will be v/busy. Bathurst is not a big place so just choose on standard and budget.
4) not sure poss check web site.
5) General admission tickets are quite good. The mountain is a big site and you can walk all the way up, checking various vantage points. There was some curious local fauna (we say feral) on display at the top of the mountain after many hours/ days drinking. So poss not all places are suitable to those of a delicate nature (high heels and shiny accessories are best kept in hospitality tents). Apart from that there is the fact that a TV will give you better updates, When I went it was BYO (Cosworth sierra's were racing) but these days there may be large TVs.

If you have a couple of days to spare the Bue Mountains are on the way from Syd and are a stunning world heritage site. Stay at Leura. Or north is Mudgee for wine tasting.

Hi there,
I live in Bathurst and so probably have a better idea of what goes on than most, so for you and everyone else I'll answer and expand so that anyone else may have the answers as well.

From Sydney drive. Train and bus is slow and a pain, planes are pretty well booked out weeks ahead.

The town goes from 35,000 to 140,000 for the 3 days and economically for retail trade the "Race Week" is worth about 6-8 weeks of normal trading for some businesses, more for pubs and restaurants for example. Getting into restaurants requires waiting in a queue or reserving a table (which they won't keep for you if you're late) or waiting at the many pub bistros for a table. All the pubs are full.
So Sunday about 100,000 and there are between 7-10,000 support personnel, (last year 550 police were moved here, though this figure is being continually reduced from a high of 1,200 police in 2002) This year there will be about 350-400 cops.

If you haven't made reservations by now it's doubtful you'll get anywhere at all, good or bad. Most premium accommodation is booked the previous year. Camping is an option but it can get very cold at night in Bathurst. Thousands camp in many temporary camping areas all through and around the town. I generally have 3 guests for the weekend at my place. You could try the Bathurst tourist information centre as many people in fact let one or two rooms for the weekend through there, also try the estate agents a lot of people (including my sister) let their houses for the week and "get the hell out of dodge". Prices are high but better than hotels.

Try and get a reserved ticket and then you have a good spot but can also wander around for a look at the entire venue. A shuttle service runs continually from the pits to the top of the mountain so you can see nearly all of the track.
Alcohol is restricted to certain areas and quotas as to quantity apply. Food and drink are readily available all around the track but typically lacking in nutrition, they do make up for it in the exorbitant prices. (I take sandwiches).

Getting from town to track is about a 2.5 km walk from the centre of town to pit straight so taking a car to the track is probably not your best option. Leave it in town and walk to the track or again there are shuttle buses running continually from town to the track. I drop my guests off in the morning and get them to call in the evening, most of the time they go into town and I meet up with them there. I didn't go for the last 3 years because honestly, I don't like V8 supertaxis. I am a volunteer for the 12 hr and a lot of other events here though. I only really follow sports cars and F1.
I was there when Peter Brock won it in a GTR-XU1 though.

The thing is, I arrive at Syney 2 weeks before the race. I'm from Holland so I don't have a car over there in Australia. Renting a car is a bit difficult because I'm under 21, so I'll probably use the train/bus. The plan is to stay in Syney for a few days and then travel to Blue Mountain on my way to Bathurst.
If all hotels in Bathurst are booked out, then what other town/city nearby should I look for?
After the race I'll stay in Australia for another 3-4 months and I'm probably going to New Zealand as well. I like mountain biking and I heard that Australia and especially New Zealand is a paradise for mountainbikers.

Well, when you know when you are on your way to NZ, give me a PM. I live in Queenstown and we have everything except surfing... Snow in winter and in the 30's in summer with a gondola that takes mountain bikes from 10am till 8pm 4th September till 29th April just for starters....

That lap is still referred to as "The lap of the gods" and has held until last year when Craig Lowndes finally beat it in a much more advanced car.

Hope you get to Bathurst , Duco, Mount Panorama is a special place. You won't believe how much steeper it is in real life, than what it looks on TV.

2 years ago I was in Monaco, not during the gp weekend, but in the summer, and I was already very suprised how steep it was form st Devote to Casino.:wink: From an onboard video it doesnt look like uphill.
Also at the Nordschleife I was very impressed by how steep it was. I tried climbing the Steilstrecke(the Carussel shortcut) on a mountainbike lol. after 5 meter I gave up.

I sent an e-mail to an Irrish pub/hotel called Jack Duggans but they are not responding. Looks like I have to spend the night sleeping under a bridge lol.
