American star driver and cult hero Ken Block will join the 2010 edition of the World Rally Championhip. He will drive for the Monster World Rally Team on some of the 2010 events. Driving a Ford Focus RS WRC, Ken will be the second big name after Kimi Raikkonen that boosts the WRC to the next level.

Simon Long, CEO of North One Sport commented to WRC.com: “Ken Block is an iconic figure in US motorsport and a major box office personality due to his X Games success and viral video campaigns," he said. "It provides us with huge opportunities to promote and grow the appeal of the WRC in North America and across the globe.

“Along with our millions of fans, I am extremely excited to see how both Ken and Kimi get to grips with the variety of surfaces and challenging conditions that make the WRC the most diverse motorsport on the planet.

“We’re delighted to have secured unbelievable driving talents but also huge global stars, and welcome them into the WRC community," he concluded.

For the WRC only Ford and Citroen are confirmed so far as manufacturers while the IRC has a whole spectrum of cars entering: Abarth, VW, Honda, Peogeot, Proton, Ralliart, Skoda, Subaru.

How come those brands are not longer interested in the WRC?
