2009 Red Bull RB5

Webber was sorta wrong... definitely not the prettiest '09 car, but it looks good enough - sort of 'muscular.' And - wait a second... are those BARGEBOARDS in front of the sidepods?!

Barge boards per se were not outlawed. What they (the FIA) did was create non-aero zones around the car where aero devices were not permitted, the key one of these being in the region where barge boards had been sited previously. What some teams, notably Ferrari and RBR have done is move the sidepods rearwards, allowing some room between them and the non-aero zone for an aero device cunningly disguised as a mirror mount.

It's a bone of contention at the moment with some teams saying that whilst it is not against the letter of the rule, it is against the spirit of the rule. What they tried to do with the non-aero zones is to reduce the turbulence coming off the car so that cars following would not be robbed of downforce ergo grip. What these new "mirror mounts" do is tidy the air up before it goes around the rear wheels and in doing so create turbulence behind the car.

good bye to all the design spoiling aero crap

what a relief to see the new breed of f1 cars, gone are the days of flippers and finns and stuff that made a decent design job impossible. If only they wouldn't look so tiny this year, more like GP2 really, don't they?

I like it!
Imho its the best looking of the new cars, wonder what it would look like with a McLaren livery on it hehe :D
Now lets see what STR and Force India come up with (and the Honda rescue team, will be nice to see them make it to Oz)

This is definitely the best looking 09 car. I hope they can win with it, thats a much more important thing.
