Edwards leads series in wins, but falls short for title

Nine victories and the best average finish (9.5) in the Sprint Cup Series is usually good enough to win the championship. But for Carl Edwards this past year, it was good enough for second.

Whereas Kyle Busch set the tone early and Jimmie Johnson paced things late, Edwards, to put it mildly, was dominant throughout the entire season. His victories came on every style of oval on the schedule: half-mile, mile, 1.5-mile and 2-milers. And when it counted, he turned up the heat more than anyone.

Edwards was solid through the first half of the season, scoring back-to-back victories at Fontana and Las Vegas -- although he got yanked 100 points and 10 bonus points for an oil reserve encasement lid that was missing. He managed to work his way back into the top 10 in points after an early blown motor saddled him at Atlanta. Once the second half began, it was top-10 or bust.

Late improvements help Biffle to third-place finish

Greg Biffle certainly picked a good time of year to shine, and a good season to do well, too.

Biffle, who was up for a contract extension, signed the dotted line to stay with Roush Fenway Racing through 2011 in the middle of the summer, then proceeded to show why he's a valuable commodity to the organization. He did crash the next race, but then rebounded from teetering on the Chase cutoff to making the playoff and pushing to win it.

Without a victory entering the Chase, Biffle was placed ninth in the points with all the other competitors who were winless, 80 points back of leader Kyle Busch. That all changed at New Hampshire.

NASCAR get tough on drug testing.

A snippet:

Among the substances those participants must be tested for are:
• Seven different amphetamines, including methamphetamine and PMA, a synthetic psychostimulant and hallucinogen.
• Three drugs classified under ephedrine.
• Thirteen different narcotics, including codeine and morphine.
• Ten different benzodiazepines and barbituates.
• Marijuana, cocaine, zolpidem, nitrites, chromates and drugs that can increase specific gravity.

Marijuana, hows that going to make you go faster? ;) And maybe they should look at this guy about gravity drugs. :)

I mean come on that's not normal is it?

did he win and flip from the window?

increase specific gravity
the marajuana would fullfil this purpose. but also a guess they're not testing just for performance enhancing reasons, since almost all of the above if used recreationally in the days leading up to a race could have a detrimental affect on your reactions and ability to drive at approaching 200. safety first n all that :)
