2009 IndyCar Series

Good luck! If he has Michael Cannon switches to manage his car, it will greatly benefit him. Cannon helped Doornbos and AJ Allmendinger to get victories in Champcar.

"Doornbos drove for Minardi Team USA but that whas bought by HVM later."

HVM has been in CART/Champcar/IndyCar for years. Stoddard came over and bought into the team, only to leave after the Champcar/IndyCar merger. With more road courses on the schedule, maybe he'd be willing to come back one day.

YES,Robert Doornbos will race at Mid Ohio, for HVM his old team from the Cart series 2007.

Did not finish in the first 7 races
Race-8: Pl.12
Race-9: Pl. 7
Race-10 Pl.13
Race-11 Pl.12
Race-12 Pl.15
Over all points:179 place 18

IndyCar 2009: Round 14: Infinion Raceway

Round 14 is to be held on the 23th of August.

Track facts :
The Infineon Raceway road course features more than 160 feet of elevation change from its highest to lowest points. The highest point at Turn 3a reaches 174 feet, while the lowest point at Turn 10 is just 14 feet.

Drivers hospitalized

SONOMA, Calif. -- IndyCar Series drivers Will Power and Nelson Philippe were hospitalized after being involved in a three-car incident during the morning practice session at Infineon Raceway, according to Indy Racing League medical director Dr. Michael Olinger.

Both drivers were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Power suffered compression fractures of the L2 and L4 (lumbar) vetebrae and was scheduled for a magnetic resonance imaging. He also suffered a concussion. Philippe was scheduled to undergo surgery to repair an open fracture to his left foot in addition to suffering a concussion.

"We never want to have to pull out of a race, especially under these circumstances," Conquest Racing team owner Eric Bachelart said. "While we regret not being able to participate in this weekend's event, the most important thing is that Nelson will be all right. It was a scary incident and we wish both Nelson and Will speedy recoveries."

Philippe's No. 34 iDrive Green entry for Conquest Racing spun at the exit of Turn 3a (blind cresting the 153-foot elevation portion of the corner) and came to a stop on the left side of the racetrack. E.J. Viso, driving the No. 13 PDVSA HVM Racing car, attempted to avoid the car but clipped the front of Philippe's car with his left-rear tire. Power, also cresting the hill, couldn't avoid the debris and Philippe's car.

"It's a very fast and tough corner, and it's blind, too," said Viso, who was uninjured. "I came over the hill and just saw something green. I knew it was Nelson, but I was going through so fast. I just went to avoid him, but it's so tough. I didn't see much by the time I had to try and avoid the car."

Philippe was seeking to make his second IndyCar Series start of the season (competed in the Indianapolis 500 with HVM Racing), while Power had made six previous starts (won at Edmonton and three other top-five finishes). Both drivers are scheduled to compete in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Oct. 10 -- pending their medical clearance by Olinger.

Franchitti clinches Sonoma pole position

23 August 2009

Scotland's Dario Franchitti was able to convert the best practice time into the most rapid qualifying effort to take pole position at Sears Point on Saturday. The Target Chip Ganassi driver stormed to the top spot at the Infineon Speedway and will start Sunday's race ahead of the two Penskes of Ryan Briscoe and Helio Castroneves.

The day was unfortunately shadowed by a practice crash which leaves Nelson Philippe and Will Power in hospital although Franchitti was unstoppable on-track to charge to the top spot with a best effort of 1:16.798, a close five hundredths of a second quicker than Briscoe who, in-turn, beat Castroneves by just over two hundredths of a second. Franchitti had suffered an off-track excursion but recovered well to steal P1.

Andretti Green Racing qualified strongly with both Marco Andretti and Hideki Mutoh making the top five with team-mates Tony Kanaan and series returnee Franck Montagny seventh and eighth. Between the quartet is the Newman/Haas/Lanigan car of Graham Rahal, in sixth position.

The second British driver on the grid, Mike Conway, will begin the race from ninth but Champion and current championship leader Scott Dixon has work to do after rounding out the top ten for Round 14.

"The car was good straight off the truck this morning," the pole winner commented, but what of his mistake? "That was a minor off - I tried to go down a couple of gears and it wouldn't go down any so I ended up going off a little bit but it was okay."

Franchitti controls proceedings at Sears Point

23 August 2009
Searspoint-podium-99.jpg
Britain's Dario Franchitti led from start to finish to register victory and move back into second place in the championship at the Infineon Raceway. The Target Chip Ganassi driver controlled the Sonoma race despite being under immense pressure as the top three finishers were covered by just over three quarters of a second.

With Franchitti having qualified for pole position on Saturday, the Scot wound up Sunday's warm-up session in only seventh spot as Mike Conway led the way; it was the Dreyer & Reinbold driver who completed the podium in the race although Penske's Ryan Briscoe shadowed the leader for most of the afternoon.

The start of the race saw Franchitti lead comfortably away although Conway found himself tangled up in a multi-car collision before having to drive back through the field to a first ever IndyCar Series rostrum. The Turn 2 carnage brought a premature end to E.J. Viso's afternoon as Andretti, Patrick, Kanaan, Montagny and Rahal all pitted as well as Conway.

Another man in at the end of the first lap was championship leader Scott Dixon as the team-mate to winner Franchitti suffered from a major loss of championship points by coming home in 13th place.

Helio Castroneves was well placed for a challenge to win although the Brazilian's afternoon was over after making contact with compatriot Tony Kanaan, who was yet to pit, whilst running third and defending from the Andretti Green car of Hideki Mutoh; the touch could have resulted in worse consequences for Castroneves, who was put into the air briefly, but eventually crashed into the retaining wall on the 66th lap when a damaged suspension unit collapsed.

Mario Moraes finished a strong afternoon in fourth place for KV Racing as Mutoh rounded out the top five; less than a second further back was Spain's Oriol Servia, who escaped contact with Justin Wilson as the Englishman completed the race in seventh spot. Kanaan, Matos and Holland's Robert Doornbos completed the top ten.

With a caution period being called in the late stages for Castroneves' crash, Briscoe found himself right on the tail of Franchitti although there was no way through and the Target car took victory by just two tenths of a second to bring Dixon's championship-leading gap down to four points with only three races remaining in 2009.

I would have been furious at Andretti if I was Dixon, works hard all race to get some respectable ponts only to be stupidly punted out by Marco. That boy needs to learn some respect, maturity and discipline.

Great drive from Conway though, fast and for once staying out of trouble! Nice save from Wilson too! :)

Some very poor drving throughout. Kanaan on Casrtoneves, Andretti on Dixon. Worst of all was Filipe in practice. Not just the spin, but not rolling off the brakes and getting off track, instead he just sat there in the racing line on a blind turn. Stupid, stupid man. IndyCars do let too many incompetents drive in the series. Duno, Filipe etc

Tribute to Dario Franchitti's first win...

I made this movie several years ago and just recently uploaded it to YouTube. Like mentioned, it is a tribute to Dario's first win in CART at Road America in 1998 while driving for Team KOOL Green. And imagine, Paul didn't find a way to crash into him that day!?

Danica Patrick extends Andretti deal

After months of investigation, consultation and negotiation, Danica Patrick is staying in the IndyCar Series, AutoWeek has learned.

One of the sport’s most recognizable names has signed a three-year contract extension with Michael Andretti’s team, which she first joined in 2007. She will continue to drive the No. 7 car, likely sponsored by Boost Mobile.

Andretti still has not said what his revamped team will be called-—team co-owners Kim Green and Kevin Savoree are out as of 2010--but it will again include Patrick, Tony Kanaan, likely Marco Andretti and perhaps Hideki Mutoh.

Patrick, 27, is completing her fifth season in IndyCar and her third with Andretti Green Racing. She has won one race (last year in Japan) and is fifth in this season’s standings. If she finishes fifth, it will be her highest finish and will continue a trend of moving up each season, from 12th as a rookie in 2005 to ninth, then seventh and last year sixth.

Despite the new contract she signed during last weekend’s event at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit in Japan, Patrick remains interested in exploring options in NASCAR. She has met with Tony Stewart on at least two occasions, but Stewart, who co-owns a Sprint Cup Series team, does not have a Nationwide or Truck Series operation to let her enter the stock-car waters.

That said, expect Patrick’s contract with Andretti to allow her to run other races that do not conflict with the IndyCar Series schedule.
