No more transafrican this year! Viva America :D

Viva el Dakar. The tone of the encouragements received since the
announcement of our new destination confirms our belief on the
thorough nature of this one-of-a-kind race: the Dakar first of all
exists through its will for discovery and by its capacity to confront the
unknown. By crossing the ocean, the rally will witness an experience
loyal to its values, to its temperament. Argentina and Chile give the
possibility to keep the adventurer’s side that has always marked
the men of the Dakar. On the grand territories that are offered, the
competitors that will be taking part in this fantastic edition will have
the opportunity to explore new horizons. This opening to a new
continent means the passage to a new dimension for the Dakar.
Viva el Dakar, is also the echo that spreads as an answer to our
desire to “discover America”. As a reconnaissance of the international
prestige of the event, the expression of welcome underlines, and
that’s the main thing, the significance and the vigour of the message
given out by the Dakar for thirty years. Shrewd connoisseurs
of motorsports, the Argentineans and the Chileans were conquered
by the atypical properties of this rally, for which they have perceived
both the difficulty and the subtlety. The plains of Patagonia, the
Atacama Desert or the passage through the Andes mountains, in
the middle of the Austral summer, will constitute an ideal field to
witness the endurance qualities of the competitors registered for
the 2009 Dakar.
Viva el Dakar, is finally the terms of the challenge that is offered to
us as organisers. At a moment when we are called to give a new
boost to the rally, we have chosen to go further ahead. Despite
having a solid base of knowledge, this new bet invites us to ask
ourselves permanent questions and calls for our capacity to adapt.
This sane exercise is carried out with enthusiasm by our teams. We
know that audacity is the main condition to achieve great ideas.
That’s why we have dared.

I must say i really like the new change of territory that has be announced. South America will have a more diverse landscape to organise this rally on the Africa does. The best African territories have never been driven because of safety regulations and unstable governments. Now with South America as a new continent to cross the organisers no longer have that problem. I am really looking forward to see the rally crossing countries like Chile and Argentina!

From 3rd to 18th of January 2009 this will be the forum where ill be eating, living and sleeping :D. More Dakarfans join me?

The Dakar 2009 is off to discover a new continent, South America that offers unlimited possibilities to amateurs of wide open spaces. The round trip to Buenos Aires, via Valparaiso is a challenge in which the most enduring competitors will find their way and have the opportunity to distinguish themselves. With close to 6,000 kilometres of specials and difficulties scattered on the whole course, the battle for the title will remain wide open until the finish.

Well if this forum were to cook, clean, fetch my drinks and do all sorts of other stuff that keeps me away from my computer i am here with you...

So i won't be here 24/7 but sure will spend a lot of time overhere

It's fantastic, like nothing else. Pity Africa had to stop but a change of scenery can only be a good thing I reckon.

The official site wrote a recon report with some amazing pictures. Lots of the scenery is the same as in Africa, but especially the highest parts of the rally have an amazing scenery that not many people have ever seen before. This rally is a great promotion for a whole new motorsport continent!

Dakar Cars Thread

Definitly the guys i will watch this year are the dutch twins Tim and Tom Coronel. Both have extensive experience in roadracing (touringcars, openwheelers) and will team up this year to drive for Dakarsport.com in one team. For those who know Tom and Tim will agree that they are very competitive, and it will be great to see who will make the most mileage during this rally because both want to sit behind the wheel :dance2:. Tim already drove the 2007 Dakar rally in Africa and seems to have the most off road experience. But knowing Tom he will not want to loose from his brother and he quickly to adapt.
After his WTCC win in Okayama Tom will be in the winning mood. Really curious how far they will come in an environment without tarmac!

Omg, this will be fun;
Those two in one car is asking for trouble....
The biggest challenge for these two is not where they drive, but who's driving.
The car is just not big enough for both ego's

I love events like this! Should be neat to see the surroundings! All the videos of previous years I saw were all just sand :p
