Poulsen Motorsport returns to WTCC

The Danish team Poulsen Motorsport have confirmed their plans to enter three races of the World Touring Car Championship this year.
"The WTCC races that we are planning to enter are Estoril, Brands Hatch and Oschersleben," said team manager Niels Jørgen Iversen.

Besides the three WTCC-races the team will run full Danish Touring Car Championship season.

“The last of the three races are quite close to the DTC race at Sturup, but we will probably manage it anyway, as the transport back isn’t that time consuming. If the truck departs Oschersleben on Sunday evening, it will be at our workshop by Monday morning, and then we will have two days to prepare before heading off to Sweden. It will of course be problematic, if we will be getting major damages, but now we will see.”

Poulsen Motorsport host an impressive five BMW 320si E90. So far only three drivers are confirmed: Kristian Poulsen, Michel Nykjær and Jesper Sylvest.

“We are still working on striking a deal with Emmet O’Brien, who raced for us in Italy, but we might elect not to field the last car with a regular driver,” Niels Jørgen Iversen says. “Maybe we will just be using it for the WTCC races, and then perhaps rent it out on a race-by-race basis in the DTC, as several drivers have shown interest in doing so.”

"The car has a good base," said Thompson who finished third in the championship last year. "This test was primarily used for the team and I to get to know the car and that went well. We still have plenty of work to do before our racing season starts of course but this was a starting point. It's a work in progress!"

N.Technology will be looking to carry on last year's end-of-season form, which saw Thompson score more points in the second half of the season than any other driver in the championship.

"This car is a totally different package from the 156," added Thompson. "But the challenge is similar in that we have to develop the car quickly to be competitive. That's something N.Technology are extremely good at though and the Honda package as a starting point is good."

"We still have work to do but as a first test, things went well. The car has great potential."

Monteiro's test in diesel Seat

MONTEIRO’S FIRST TEST IN THE DIESEL SEAT

Tiago Monteiro returned to the Estoril circuit for a day of testing with SEAT Sport. It was the first chance for the Portuguese driver to drive the SEAT León TDI he will be using in the FIA WTCC.

Tiago"s work was more intense in the afternoon, when the track was dry. Therefore he was able to test new shock absorbers that gave him some good sensations. At the end of the day he was satisfied with the development and his adaptation to the new car.
“The TDI is 80 kg heavier than the petrol-powered León TFSI I drove last year and so the handling is very different,” Monteiro said.
“And the FIA has forbidden the use of the flat bottom which helped the handling in the fast corners. But we are on the right track and everything indicates that our results are positive.”

I dunno to be honest, isn't this car heavier than the front runners? It seems to have grown in size too, but that might be just my eyes. Would be nice to have and update with all the 08 cars, as unrealistic as that may seem.

Russian Honda in WTCC?

Golden Motors Honda Dealer Team have officially announced their plans for the 2008 racing season.
The team from St. Petersburg will start in the Swedish Touring Car Championship, continue in the FIA WTCC and finish in the FIA European Touring Car Cup with two Honda Accord Euro R cars built by JAS Motorsport and run by the Estonian team Artman Racing.
The team's two drivers - Alexander Lvov and Andrey Smetsky - were classified first and second in the 2007 Russian Touring Car Championship and are set to make their seasonal debut in the STCC at Knutstorp.
Golden Motors took part in last year's WTTC event at Anderstorp and have planned to take part in five events of the 2008 World Championship – Valencia, Brno, Oschesleben, Anderstorp, and Monza – before heading to the Austrian Salzburgring for the ETC Cup.

Turkish entry in WTCC

For the first time a Turkish team have committed to compete in the full season of the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
As we reported in a earlier story here at TouringCarTimes, Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport have conformed their entry in the championship with one BMW 320si car that will be driven by the reigning Turkish Touring Car champion Ibrahim Okyay.

The 38-year old from Istanbul, who has six national titles under his belt, is not a new face to the FIA WTCC paddock as he took part in the 2006 event at the Istanbulpark, where he managed to classify third in the Independents' Trophy.

The Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport team will sport a turquoise livery, which is also known as 'Turkish Blue'.

"We have also planned to line up a second car in some of the WTCC European race meetings," team Manager Aydýn Ural revealed.
