What Does Your Dream Sim Look Like?

20221025211228_1.jpg
Everyone has different opinions. Everyone has different tastes. Everyone has the free decision to do what they want. We decided to race virtually. That is what binds us together. But what would you do within this niche we all belong to if you could design your favourite sim by any criteria?

Option 1: The Dream Already Became Reality

With the grand amount of sim racing titles out there, it would be amiss to think that nobody has found their optimum so far.

Be it any of the currently still serviced titles like Assetto Corsa Competizione, iRacing, rFactor 2, RaceRoom or Automobilista 2 or something a bit more weathered.

Assetto Corsa is still relevant, to some extent even titles like rFactor 1 or Automobilista 1 still are. Or if we're going a bit further back, many people to this day swear on their NASCAR Racing 2003.

Fact of the matter is that many possibilities are out there, and you might have found your favourite already. If so, what game have you found that ticks all your boxes?

Option 2: The Dream is Becoming a Reality

Many games out there keep on improving, be it rFactor 2 with the resource influx from Motorsport Games or Automobilsta 2 with its always-improving physics model.

But then there are the announcements of upcoming titles like Rennsport and Assetto Corsa 2 that keep people interested, more or less.

The point is there are many games in development that might scratch an itch. Is there anything coming up that you really look forward to?

Option 3: The Dream is Just a Dream

So here's my dream.

A game without any monetisation in which I can live out the management side of racing. Also, race from time to time. I want perfect physics for that, full weather support, 24-hour day-night cycle. All race tracks in the world and all racing cars in the world. All BOP'd correctly. Also mixed reality support. Also Bentley Speed 8 LMP. NEED the Bentley Speed 8.

But let's stay realistic. That ain't happening.

So if the other options weren't fulfilling, what would be your dream-dream game?

For me it would be Rfactor 2 with some changes and extras:

rFactor 2
+ detailed AI selection
+ All current-gen GT3 cars available
+ little more track selection such as Road Atlanta, Sonoma, Mt Panorama, Kyalami & Misano
+ all new LMH & LMdH's available
+ RaceRoom engine sounds

and lastly but not leastly : up-to-date drivers & liveries for WEC, IMSA, DTM & SRO leagues

My dream sim is everything stops at the year 2000. I'm not really into GT racing and cars in general with all the electronics. My favourite period of racing is probably the 70s cars. A nice mixture of brute power, wild aero and still wayward handling. I like to tame the beast first and worry about my racing lines second.

Luckily modded AC gives me most of what I need. A bit thanks to all the modders that make it possible.

rFactor2 FFB
ACC visuals / sound
ACC complete racing series
AMS2 VR performance
AC modability & versatility
'BeamNG light' damage models
AC in-game apps & SimHub functions like a dash display
Content Manager
Button assignment profiles for different rims
2 Alternative button assignment options for most functions
No subscription model or only subscription model (all content included)

Playerbase of iRacing.
The modding community and numbers from Assetto Corsa/rFactor 1
The physics of rFactor 2.
Graphics of... well, that's harder. AMS2 looks great, so does much in Assetto Corsa/Competizione, but both all feel a bit bland at times. A bit too polished in a way.

Then add in rF2's freedom when setting up servers in regards to rules and race-formats.
Add rF2's real weather system that imports actual real life current weather data.
Add rF2's realroad system.
Add proper humidity and wind simulations (many try, but don't manage it).

That would be pretty awesome.

My dream however - is a game that doesn't exist. A game that will never be made, unless I somehow get so rich that I can finance it and take the financial loss.
I want a game, built up like F1 Career Challenge - but with rallycross. The golden years of European Rallycross, from late 70's up to mid-late 90's.
In the abscense of that, I would just like something to simulate rallycross, with proper tracks and server-freedom. I want my damn RDRX!

for me Assetto Corsa 2 with an engine that can exploit the Vr well, career mode done well that involves you, mechanic-engineer-telemetry mode, with step-by-step explanation, I would like to learn the setups well and use telemetry, and if this if everything was helped by a managerial game mode, it would also be fun to make some changes and watch the lap done by an AI, and then watch and study the results of the tour

AMS2 plus the track selection and MP structure from Iracing, the moddability of AC, the car selection from PCars 2 and Raceroom.

Those devs really should consider joining their forces and create the sim. :D

While I totally understand that you mean official laser-scanned content. The Road Atlanta and Kyalami mod-tracks for rF2 are really good. Especially during evening/night. All those lights of houses and stuff at Kyalami! I almost ran off the track in our club race there due to not looking at the track:ninja:

These tracks are already available in rF2!
as a mod but i feel like the quality is always less than the official ones though :/ there's something with the colours of most mods.. colours too hard, greens too ... green?

They might have a slightly different color palette. Both are converted AC-mods (with permission). However, in general, the tracks that @DIGGA @Heikki21 , ODB are converting/fixing for rF2 have very good quality when it comes to keeping the good things from the original track, while adding rF2 features.
@cortinhas also has some good ones, the ones converted from AC with permission is worth a try. Like Buenos Aires or Anglesey. We used Buens Aires for a whole month in the rF2 club, and Anglesey have been used for anything from 1980's Toyotas to superkarts at RD :)

I am not saying it's not other good rF2 mod tracks, there is, but imo, if you go for any of the type of tracks from the creators I've mentioned here, you won't go wrong.
You do have the 1986 F1 trackpack that is the rF1 track pack, but it has had loads of graphical updates, and all rF2 features have been added, all the way down to puddle-mapping. The one issue with that track pack, while it looks good, and it looks very time-correct (80's). Not every track feels that accurate layout-wise. But they look good! :)

TORCS with
the physics of rF2
the graphics of PC3
