Trailer Posted for "The Sim Racer" Movie

A trailer has been shared for The Sim Racer movie, which prominently features a competitive sim racing tournament.

We're learning more about a movie that signifies sim racing hitting the mainstream. A new feature film from writer and director Brock Drury tells a story of a man attempting to pay down a debt by winning money in a sim race, and we now have a trailer for the film.

The trailer was released to The Sim Racer movie's website and Twitter account and shows the character of Luke Wallace, played by Roman Jacob Boylen, on hard times. He hopes to pay off his $9,600 debt by winning $20,000 in an iRacing tournament. The trailer also clearly shows Wallace donning a VR helmet. The official website of The Sim Racer movie offers a synopsis of the movie, and merchandise if you want to support the project.

It wasn't clear from the trailer or the official Twitter account of the movie when, or on which platforms, we'll be able to watch The Sim Racer. However we get to see it, this should be further validation of our hobby, or at least another means of spreading the word of the challenges of virtual racing.

What cinema taught me when it comes to adapt video games, everytime it is disapointing.
Gonna replay "Street Fighter, the movie, the game"

I suspect selling the bike and VR rig won't work because he bought them on credit. This movie is going to define toxic masculinity, much like the cyclical ludicrous arguing about sim games. Relying on iRacing practice footage to pad the film out tells you how bad the movie will be.

Yeah, this has "Avoid" written all over it. I really don't want to meet the online players that are attracted to this movie.

I saw some Karting movie that seems like it was a straight to Netflix thing.

It was like the Karate Kid. The mentor had the kid painting with a brush attached to his helmet to build up his neck muscles, etc.. etc.. And of course the kid is complaining the whole time not understanding why he is doing all these chores the hard way, until there is a moment where all is revealed.

And of course there was a rich kid side story, where the rich kid is winning a lot but is a dick and his dad is funding the team, but "the kid" ends up building a cheap Kart with the help of a girl... You already know how it ends.

So he needs 9.600 to pay of his debt. Then sits in a VR race simulator which (all combined) costs at least 5.000. No clue what a second hand motorcycle costs nowaday, but let's also say 5.000. So if this guy would have some financial responsibility, he would sell all that stuff.

That leaves 400 bucks for a nice weekend with his girlfriend. Ok, they need to take the bus now, but it's when you're broke that you find out if she really loves you :D
Let's not blow out all the plot holes before the movie releases. Maybe the motorcycle was his dad's who left to go get cigarettes and never came back. That's why he always gets in fights at the bar with the only other sim racer in the town because he never had a father figure. Until the local old man at the bar used to race on his old 486 on Papyrus'
NASCAR Racing shows him how not to be afraid while sim racing and molds him to feel the force feedback through his hands and down to his arms.

so.. he is going to win 20K in iRenting.. but .. but.. it COSTS 20K just to get to the competition.. because its.. iRenting.. ?

Feels like the kind of plot that you could maybe pull off in an incredibly tongue-in-cheek buddy comedy but not anything else
