Test Drive Unlimited | Solar Crown Trailer Reveal

Many of the longer term racing game fans here will likely be familiar with the mega cool Test Drive Unlimited series - well, now we have a new instalment coming - and here is the first trailer!

OK, it's called a trailer but unless I'm missing something I don't actually see any real gameplay footage contained within the short video, but what I'm sure you can all agree on is, what we do see is rather graphically impressive indeed.

Another nice noteworthy point is the sight of some impressive official brands within the trailer, with both Aston Martin and Range Rover having a significant presence in the new video, as is the indication that the new title will continue in the spirit of earlier franchise entries in that it looks set to be highly story driven - giving the game a more substantial gameplay experience that limiting the title to core driving missions.

At present, not much is known about the upcoming new game, aside from the fact console and PC versions of the title will be made available on launch, however it looks like we will have to contain waiting just a little longer before we find out exactly when that release date will be.

I don't think I ever played TDU/2. Am I missing out?
As you can see from the few posts we have, it's a mixed bag. I drive race sims all the time so there's no let up. TDU is fun because you can have objectives to do, at your leisure, and / or just drive around and check the maps out. I've got GTA5 and you can sort of do this with GTA series, but it's not as laid back. I'm older now so sometimes I really do want to relax and take in the amazing things that developers do with regards to the "world map" we drive in. If you're like me, then you might enjoy TDU. Now I just need someone to make it where I can drive and walk around in Monaco or drive in the Alps;);)

TDU is a simcade open world game with no customization and a lot of exotics. The issue is that the devs moved on to make Forza Horizon and it shows. There are very few things if at all that TDU does that Forza horizon doesn't except maybe the house buying/customization and the aesthethic of being a rich boy with exotic cars.

Hmm...the idea is interesting. I can see something like a "drive around town with the top down" kind of thing being fun. Maybe drag race some people. I've tried to get into the Forza Horizon games, but they just don't do it for me. I like the drop in and play aspect, though.

AAAAAAAAAAAND nothing is revealed but a very very cringe taste for fashion.

Test Drive was a big thing on fourth gen consoles... TDU1 was a very good idea with a very bad gameplay... TDU2 was a completely disaster. Kylotonn Games can do good, but usually they fail.

Yeah... no hype is advised for Solar Crown.

there was something very special that tdu1 did that was lost in tdu2 and forza horizon and other free roam driving games. that thing is this:

it didnt take itself too seriously.

in the first game you were just some bloke with some cash who showed up in hawaii to chill and drive. the first thing you're told to do is rent a car (cus you dont own one yet) and go buy a house. then go buy a car and do whatever the heck you want. once you buy your first car youre free to just roam the island if you want and the game doesnt bug you about doing certain missions or story things.

in tdu2 they waste so much of your time right off the bat with some corny schtick about some lady who says shes your manager and youre gonna be a character in some high stakes hollywood bs "championship". once you finally do get let loose to roam around this lady is calling you about the "main story" elements of the game that you need to complete.

and dont even get me started on horizon... just imagine the energy of all those super cringy overly hype youtubers stuffed into an otherwise fine driving game....and fornite dances.....

I got my first PC wheel (non-FFB Speedlink or what) with TDU. Had really awesome time with it. This game is on my "watchlist" and I hope they recreate the magic of TDU, even if I end up playing it with a gamepad.

could be fun , enjoyed the first one, second one not so much for some reason

also worked on Mazda RX8 for the first one, which sadly was never released

TDU is the only game i've spent 1 decade straight up playing nonstop in my entire life.

The ability to do whatever i want, live a luxurious life getting cars, houses, clothing, drive endlessly while at the same time enjoying the challenges the game had in store.

And the physics were exactly in the sweet spot for an arcadish game similar to 2000 era NFS games which made it even more fun to begin in the first place.

Now the cherry on top, WE GOT THE ENTIRE HAWAII free to explore!. I've never seen any racing game able to that in its time.

I am waiting with excitement for TDU Solar Crown with open arms.

Damn I hate these trailers without any physics or gameplay footage...
Makes me think of Battlefield trailers, and the graphic dissapointment when discovering the final version

(And , why a Range Rover for street racing !?? )
