Straight4 Studios Joins Forces with Reiza Studios

Straight4 Studios Reiza Studios Partnership.jpg
After reassembling most of the team from the GTR and GTR2 days, Straight4 Studios is working on a successor to the popular series of sims under the working title of GTR Revival. Now, the developer has secured the support of a dedicated studio: Reiza and Straight4 confirmed a strategic partnership.

As Reiza is using the MADNESS Engine for Automobilista 2, the link to Straight4 CEO Ian Bell becomes clear: Bell was behind the Project CARS franchise for which the engine was created, establishing contact with Reiza CEO Renato Simioni - and the two studios have been talking for quite a while, as it turns out.

"Renato and I have been discussing this possibility for a long time, going back to when they were creating Automobilista 2", states Bell. "All of us at Straight4 were enormously impressed with what Renato and his studio were able to create in terms of feel and handling with Automobilista 2."

"Easy Decision for Reiza"

Simioni explains why the two studios finally came together: "Our studios have always ended up on varying projects at varying times, delaying any kind of decision. Finally, with Ian and his team working hard on their upcoming game, the time was right for us to join forces." The Brazilian liked what he has seen so far for Straight4's effort. "Having seen inside the new project Straight4 is working made this an easy decision fo Reiza to sign up to a project we believe is going to be the next great sim racing title."

A promising alliance, especially considering Straight4's patented AI-based commentary and race engineer system that was first demoed using Automobilista 2 and Project CARS 2. "Combining our studio's talents is exciting news for all of us at Straight4, and I'm really confident this will also be fantastic news for the sim racing industry as a whole", says Bell.

What this means for the ongoing development of AMS2 is not yet clear. However, Simioni promises updates very soon: "We'll have further news on our portfolio of games for our fans in the next few days."

The upcoming title of the now joint effort is set to be released on PC as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X & S and will be published by PLAION.

"portfolio of games" is the bit that caught my attention. So they will go down the route of that failed franchise which promised to do one game each of popular series (and still hasn't delivered if I remember correctly). Wonder what series they will focus on.

Didn't expect this. Though one could argue an obvious merge. But at first glance I don't like this at all.

I can only grab to my hope that this team merge will not result in a melting down of Reiza's work effort and working methods.

If one were to play devil's advocate, you could argue that Straight4Games has given in, without being able to live up to very large arm movements.

Had really hoped for continued development of AMS2 with all the ongoing fixes and new stuff of which we have been continously gifted with. But this will impact the work on AMS2 with such a demanding new task.

Moreover I'd hoped for - in best dreams - that Straight4 were to release a sim based on all the good things from GTR series, and sim engine behind WTCC, STCC, Race07 and so on, so trustworthy and really only tyre model and maybe graphics engine made more VR plug-in ready as todos.

But it seems us simmers now have to deal with more work on the UE engine.

Should I take the positive glasses on, Mr. Bell has promised a very moddable sim title, so my worries may come to shame.

But one thing is certain; it's going to hurt on the AMS2 development. A sim especially with recently added content I had daydreamed about a full 1971 WSC series, i.e. an official sim release of full historic grids for every venue on the historic calendar. But good bye dreams, I must find solace in my loads of mods for rF1, AC and...GTR2.

Hope the best, fear the worst.

The demo in the YT video is terrible… bla bla bla… very tiring. Does also sound scripted and not AI generated. But saying it is AI generated is very trendy of course.

The combination of both studios can be interesting though. I still wish PC2 with all its great content would get the physics and FFB updates that Reiza did for AMS2. SMS pulled the plug on PC2 way too fast! But maybe that can now be incorporated in the new game.

Going into business with Ian Bell is a big risk for Reiza’s very good reputation though. Let’s hope for something positive this time from Mr. Bell…
unless they did it deliberately to throw off folks claiming it was scripted, One of the two announcers was Clint Bower.(Pronounced BOY-yer) The demo said Bow-er(like the Bow of a ship)
That is not something a scripted narration would let slip through.

Big news! Seems this story can only have one of two endings: "GTR3" or "DNF". Rooting for the first one. Best of lucks!

The statement that threw me the most was that it's to be released on 'consoles' as well as the PC, I can't see "the most moddable racing sim ever" holding on to that status if it's for the consol market, I can do as I like with GTR2 on the PC but how much freedom and easy accessibility would a PS5/XBoX user have on a similar sim/game?

Now here is something I did not expect:

Someone at RaceDepartment who honestly hasn’t heard of the original Assetto Corsa, aka, “the most moddable racing sim ever” that also was released on consoles?
