Skinning in Assetto Corsa Competizione 1.8 - What you need to know!

ACC version 1.8 is here and it came with a lot of updates, but also some new considerations for those that like to create custom liveries for our favourite cars. I will show you all the new changes in my latest video.

For the most part it appears that the changes are positive for us creators. Kunos have made some changes to the game which means joining online multiplayer races with custom skins is less of a problem. And that is a massive thumbs up.

However, there are a couple of additional steps which you need to be aware of if you want your existing skins to work properly and if you want to continue with your existing work flow.

In short: It's no longer possible to instantly see the changes you make in your skinning software appear in game, without making some changes to additional files. You need to make a change within the menuSettings.json file for it to work the way you are used to.

In the tutorial video I also show you the best practices for sharing your liveries with others. If you are uploading them to the ACC Mods Downloads here on RaceDepartment, your fellow racers will thank you for these additional steps.

Happy skinning in ACC 1.8!

very quick reaction to the new version, good job! wonder if the changes in 1.8 will make custom skins in tournaments / series, e.g. on simracing.gp a more viable option in the future.

wow congratulation show everybody how custom skins are made, so that every driver knows how to do it.

But it would be also nice to say that all non SRO or AK Informatica leagues and series are not allowed to use them do to EULA. I know RD has no problems with this, but for any other it is a huge pain in the a**

Can't stop admire of iRs' simplicity:
tradingpaints.com => "choose favourite paint" => "hit RACE THIS PAINT button".
In ac/c you have to f**k with it.
Though one has to admit that Tradingpaints is a 3rd party site which iRacing was clever enough to support. But I totally agree, it's magic, also the way you can download whole fields for use if you play the AI, outstanding.

Is it possible that the "skinTemplateKey": 99 dosen't work at the new M4 GT3 if you want to put a custom design over it?
I have the problem, if i upload the design and the skinTemplateKey is set to 99, i only see the carbon skin. If i turn the skinTemplateKey to 100, the design is displayed.

Same issue here, decals.png gets covered, sponsors.png doesn't.

To be fair, this isnt iRacings' simplicity. Trading Paints is an unofficial thirdparty fan project.
the same can be built for ACC.
Just as Content Manager is a vital part of AC, but not by Kunos.

Once that is done please do contact us
Hoping that was meant in general, as I am merely someone who makes some skins :)
I was just stating that it isnt iRacing who made it so simple to use skins.

It would be a great tool though, so that effort would be greatly appreciated

For anyone who doesn't know how or is affraid to change a config file, there is another way. Just delete the 1 or 2 dds files before saving the new skin into the game. In this case ACC will create new files with the latest skin. It's very easy and there is no risk to "destroy" something by manipulating config files. ;)

Btw, Boone, thx for all your help and all the videos.
