rFactor 2 | Ligier JS P217 Update Now Available

Studio 397 have today deployed a new update for the Ligier JS P217 LMP2 car available within the Endurance Bundle 2 DLC for rFactor 2.
  • Various fixes for wheel and window textures.
  • New liveries.
  • Fixes and updates for wet weather features.
Earlier today a brand-new update has been deployed to the LMP2 specification Ligier JS P217 within rFactor 2, as Studio 397 look to address some outstanding issues with the current car that have been brought up since it released as part of the Endurance Bundle 2 DLC back at the end of 2020.

The new build addresses a number of visual bugs within the car build, including an issue where players could not see the under shadow of other cars from cockpit view, an issue around false reflections on the car steering wheel and other rain related improvements, as can be seen in the update notes below.

Ligier JS P217 V1.17 Update Notes:
  • Corrected steering wheel glass rendering
  • Corrected bug where other cars under shadow is not visible in cockpit view
  • Corrected doors attaches visible cockpit view.
  • Updated rims shader to IBL
  • Adjusted VFX Wiper textures
  • Wiper sync position fix
  • Fixed missing droplet flow on body works and windscreen
  • Added O-Rouge team livery

Find Whoochoo's 1967 version of Le Mans in the workshop. It is called Le Grand Circuit. Do not make ANY setup changes until the 3rd step. Drive both the Ligier and Oreca with the default setups.

Now load the Ligier and drive approximately 2/3rds of the long long Mulsanne straight. There is a small hump there and you should be at Vmax by this time. (note: not the larger hump near the end of the straight) Pause the sim and write down the top speed of the Ligier.

Next load the Oreca and repeat the process. At the same point on the track, note your top speed. It should be ten or more kph slower. This is NOT because the Ligier is so much faster, but the Oreca is dragging on the road surface and cannot reach it's top speed. rF2 DESPERATELY needs sparks and/or road scraping sounds so users without Motec can understand the car is bottoming out.

Now the 3rd part of the experiment. Once again with the Oreca, go to the setup screens and raise the front & rear ride ht a couple of clicks and also increase the spring rates front and rear several clicks. This will allow the car to resist the aero effects pushing it down and keep the belly pan from scraping on the tarmac. With just the ride ht and spring rate increases, you should now be able to very closely match the top speed of the Ligier.

Remember, use Le Grand Circuit so you do not have to negotiate chicanes. This is only meant to show the Oreca has a problem at very high speeds, not to suggest setup advice.
So the basic setup needs to be adjusted for getting the best performance on a track with extremly high speeds. Most tracks the Oreca will never get in those extreme circumstances, that's why the chicanes were introduced at Mulsanne straight. ;)

What might be helpful, is if someone with Motec experience can document just at what speed the dragging begins.

The games GPL,Gp4,NR2003 had incredible ai but today’s sims ai pale in comparison.
Can anyone tell me why?

Increased complexity, production costs and less specialized products just to name a few points. The games you listed only focus on a certain type of series where you can tailor AI for alot less scenarios. GPL didn't have night racing or pitstops for example, so they could shift that development time to other areas.

So I loaded the Indy oval and fired up the Indycar and enjoyed practice, quali but the race was a full course yellow mess, first 3 laps of 10 WTF lol. Anyone have any tips for a more enjoyable Indy 500 experience? I’m not new at this sim but I have to say it again, the physics are amazing

Since you are not new to rF2, we'll say this again for the 100th, billionth time. DO NOT USE FLAGS WITH RF2 IN SOLO PLAY. The AI cannot follow each other correctly while under yellow, they cannot stay together in a nice tight pack while under yellow. They cannot stay at race speed when catching up to a car that will pit at the end of the lap. They cannot draft and the list of CANNOTS goes on and on. Solo play in rF2 was broken in one of the first updates S397 released over 4 years ago. They freely admit they broke the AI, there is NO TIMELINE for a fix. There is NO REASON to expect help anytime soon. The focus of S397 is to flesh out the UI that they have spent the last 4 years working on....so....don't expect them to complete that next week, next month, or possibly even next year. The Competiton system is next in priority and ONE of the hoped for benefits is an offline championship mode. But that will only occur near the end the Comp System's development. Are you getting the picture yet? Solo play is possible with rF2 but not a priority. Solo play has a long list of KNOWN ISSUES and none of those will be looked at until after the items mentioned above. BOP updates are not for solo vs AI play but to balance cars online. So to enjoy rF2 more, either race online, preferably in a league where drivers behave themselves, or Solo while racing with all flags turned off. (they still get displayed, just no enforcement is taken) Turn down agression and and damage. Try to keep the fps up, I think some AI behavior is related to how stressed your system is. Finally some users have reported better over all experience when they rename or delete the USER DATA folder and let rF2 create a new one when Steam boots up the next time. (if you go that route, you might want to save your controller profiles, and your player.json so you don't loose controller presets or tweeks you have possibly made to the player.json.
