'Tis the season to be racing! And in rFactor 2, you can soon be driving the Vauxhall Astra BTCC around a track of your choice. But that's not everything ...

While Opel has been very sparingly represented in motorsports recently, the Astra has had a presence in the touring car world. In RaceRoom, you could drive the Opel Astra TCR, and now the British version finally makes its sim racing debut.

Queue the Vauxhall Astra BTCC. Coming to rFactor 2 as part of the Christmas content drop.

And if you ever thought: "Where did Rich Energy go?", here's your answer:

This here Vauxhall will mark the first of two new vehicles for the Christmas content drop. While, due to leaks, the Vauxhall has been handled as the inevitable next release, it is yet unclear what the other new car for the Christmas content drop will be.

We may see the BTCC grid edging ever closer to completion with a Cupra León BTCC or a Honda Civic Type R joining the ranks. On the other hand, I wouldn't have anything against another LMH car. For that, however, the hybrid system would have to be included in rFactor 2.

On one hand I am afraid to put money into rF2 as its future is very uncertain. On the other hand I drive an (Opel) Astra... a little bit different than this one of course, but still... makes it appealing.

I still wonder why australia/uk rebrands Opel as Vauxhall/Holdens ? Maybe to not confuse left and right hand drive models :D

Anyway this Peugeot Opel Vauxhall BTCC looks sweet :)

The Christmas Present term may be editorial from the RD staff. Here is the announcement text which leads to the official release blog. Notice S397 uses the term surprises, not GIFT. I believe the BTCC content was fairly expensive for S397, I doubt they would pass up a chance to recover some of that cost.
The Vauxhall covers two drivers, but that still leaves 5 Honda & 3 Cupra cars from the official lineups. Thanks to the fine work of painters here at RD, this will bring the 2022 field up to 18 cars with correct skins.
I will note, however, the Honda/Acura NSX GT3 has never made it to rF2. I worry the same roadblocks will limit the BTCC Hondas.

I'm sure, somewhere down the line. If you can be patient and are looking for value, best to wait otherwise you end up buying drip fed content and "repurchasing" items as the content in packs they create tend to overlap. I've had to do this before several times.

I totally understand why they do it from a business perspective. Unfortunately due to the fact that you need to own all of the content to join a specific server, it ends up hindering uptake of the sim by a lot of people I think.

Also, am not sure if this content drop is free either?

It better be free, because otherwise it would be a spit in the face for those who bought full Q4 pack expecting it will have last content for this year, before 2023 Q1.

? Since when is offering MORE content an insult? They state they will be releasing 2 cars in the Christmas content drop, they do not say which ones, nor do they say both will be BTCC. My guess would be the Cupra Leon will join the Vauxhall and that will leave the Honda cars for Q1.(again...just a guess)

Since Q drops are usually a better deal, and their policy kind of was presented as 4x a year releases. If it's paid content that was postponed just to rush out Q4 and not include in deal, kind of defeats the purpose of Q deal, doesn't it? Again we go into split content/pack direction - "I already own that car, but the pack is a good deal so I will have to pay for this item twice bla bla bla."
So now I'm the a*****e that complains about the stuff before it's even out :D
Hope the cars are free and add to overall quality of sim.
