rFactor 2 Christmas DLC Completed With Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992)

After the recent announcement of a Christmas pack coming to rFactor 2, the 2nd car for the pack was announced. Introducing the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992).

Indeed a surprise for anyone, but a pleasant one. This newest generation of the Porsche GT3 Cup leaves little to be desired regarding the level of racing.

Already known from other games, though in older variants, Porsche Cup racing always lends to close grids. It allows for close racing, and finally, being able to race it for rFactor 2 lends to so many possibilities.

With the modding capabilities of the sim, you can soon race one of the most interesting one-make series on just about any track that has been digitally created.

But the Pork is not all that has been announced in the meanwhile:

BTCC 2022 Update and BOP Are Also Coming + Hybrid system later?

The 2022 liveries and BOP are coming. Okay. Moving on.

Arguably the biggest announcement in the BTCC 2022 post was the TOCA Hybrid which would be coming in Q1 of 2023.

Studio 397 announced in the post that a full-on hybrid functionality was in development and (hopefully) ready to deploy for the Q1 2023 update. This allows all hybrid fans to rejoice! All the possibilities that come to mind...

On the top of my personal list would be the development of further LMH cars with their hybrid system.

But enough of that. Are you looking forward to the Christmas DLC? And what do you think rFactor 2 will do with the hybrid system? Let us know in the comments below!

Most excited for the hybrid system. 2022 was a BTCC year for rF2, 2023 a hypercar year? If they want to remain the go to sim for Virtual LeMans, we need these hypercars in 2023.

-What business model is best FOR YOU as a sim racer?
I think paid dlc with some free content coming out regularly is a good deal. But not all new content should be paid, nor should full classes of cars be paid dlc. The touring cars for example should have one car free with a dlc model that allows to race against the others without buying all the cars. Tracks, I can understand but not cars. That's how raceroom and iracing do it and for sure it is not hurting them financially. Making stuff more expensive does not mean you simply make more money. The higher the price the fewer copies you sell. Rf2 needs to build its userbase, it needs that critical mass, more people. The current dlc model works actively against that.

Personally I'd love to buy this porsche. Always very fun car to drive in all sims. Rf2 is great fun to drive and as the saying goes... when it works it is great. Have done some races in lfm and all my problems are really tiny inconveniences that I can happily live with. It is good. But knowing that to be able to do any racing in this porsche I'd also need to buy several tracks as well... and in worst case another car or cars just to drive this one online...

It is not even about having to buy a track or two or the money involved. But you have no idea what to even buy. You can not know what tracks the server or competition system might be running so you can not even plan ahead. Same reason I don't ever buy anything at rf2 sales. No idea what else I might need to buy to be able to use the one piece of content I want. I'm 100% online racers and I'd never buy anything for offline use.

Surely it is a hard technical problem. Maybe impossible problem. But so was new shaders and graphics engine, new sounds.

What I really want to know is: if a BTCC pack comes out, will the missing tracks (Silverstone, Oulton Park, Snetterton, Knockhill) and remaining car brands be added to it later, to complete the BTCC series?

If so, would existing purchasers get those tracks/cars added for free, or would they have to buy them separately?

I saw a similar situation with the Formula E pack, where things chop and change, but if you're an existing owner, you won't get any content added later and would have to buy it separately.

Otherwise it'd make sense to wait until the BTCC pack is complete, before purchasing...

People need to quit bitching on this forum on literally every post going. Really tiresome
People have been doing this since forums have existed on the internet.
My RD observations are
RFactor 2- Users, general unhappy with unfinished product but like the experience.Non users, unhappy with unfinished product
Iracing Users happy with product.Non users dont like the costs.
ACC Users happy with product.Non users bored of GT3.
RaceRoom Users happy with product.Non users.Dont like the business model.
AMS2 Users happy with product.Non users.Its Project Cars2!

We should count ourselves lucky we have so many good and varied sims to argue about.

the remaining cars come in the Q1 drop in Ferbruary, the tracks dont and frankly they wont be added all, atleast for the foreseable future.

LFM runs one track per series from what I have seen so far and it works really nice. You could race at Knockhill with the BTCC cars for example without having to buy the content for the week after if you aren't interested. LFM tells you what you need for a raceweek and I specialy like their incorporation of high quality 3rd party tracks. And with the last rF2 update you get pretty detailed information via the shop. There was a time when Steam was out of question for rF2, now it's on Steam since many years. There were times when tracks like Nurburgring or cars like Ferrari seemed out of reach. I think if the demand is really there, there is allways a way to make things plossible.

The biggest problem with official CS for example isn't that the packaging structure isn't right. It's simply the fact that you don't see how many drivers are registered for certain races and it isn't as nicely structed as LFM. You also have no ratings and driver stats so people have no incentive to race and glimb through the ladders.

Anyway, good thing about the Porsche Cup car is that it is a single make series, so the chance that you miss a car is pretty much noneexistent incase LFM runs a series with it. And if you just want to race certain tracks with it you should be good to go. I think the LFM guys have a very good way of using free and payware stuff without causing too much confusion.

It'd be nice if they finished more than a quarter of the BTCC they promised first.
More than a quarter. The cars left the Cupra Leon and Honda Civic. Plus the hybrid system.

Tracks are the issue with several more that seemed like they wont come.

I agree with people mentioning the lack of BTCC tracks, but if we are lucky enough to get the full set of cars, then am I right in thinking the tracks are available as 3rd party downloads ?.

If not. The cars so far are very good, all the fantastic modders out there in modderland will soon sort out the missing tracks.

The remaining tracks are all in iRacing, do licensing can't be too difficult? MSV tracks Brands Hatch and Donington Park are already available, MSV also have Oulton and Snetterton.

Knockhill is what I'd most like though, that track's mad!

Is there something wrong with the mod tracks we have ?

Outlon, Knockhill, Snetterton are good enough worse comes to worse.

Well at least MSGS isn't doing a cash grab with it... Considering the mess they are in it's a good karma move by them for the community to bring this out...

Wait they really expect people to pay for this Porsche? That's the type of car that should be free...

Sadly it looks like that BTCC game will never see the light of day...

Really excited to hear about the 2022 liveries and hybrid system for the BTCC content. That, plus the fact (judging by the release-by-release trickle of BTCC cars) that we'll eventually have the full seasons of cars and tracks available for rF2 (especially once you add modded liveries and tracks). Once one or more full seasons are available, I'll be grabbing the BTCC content. So cool to see a modern sim with first-party content tackle a full series of non-GT3 cars! Even if I'm not a BTCC fan per se, I really like this.

I also really like the addition of the 992 Cup car, for a few reasons:

  • As Julian stated, you can "race one of the most interesting one-make series on just about any track that has been digitally created" - since there are Porsche Cup series all over the world.
  • Like any spec racing series where every driver runs an identical car, it lends itself nicely to online racing.
  • I believe the Cup cars do not run TC, which should make them more fun and challenging to drive than a GT3.
  • Also, I can't wait to see the modded skinpacks painters created for various national series. Partially because it's fun to have nice-looking liveries, but also because these skinpacks (when combined with a set of tracks, tailored AI lines, and carefully calibrated talent files) could be a showcase for how rF2 can provide killer offline circuit racing.

Darn. I may have to break open my wallet for some of this! :p

would be nice if they finshed ANYTHING to 100%..

Why do you think that car should be free?
