RaceRoom Adds Indy Oval And New Road Course Versions

RaceRoom Adds Indy Oval And New Road Course Versions.jpg
RaceRoom goes Indianapolis: A brand-new version of the circuit is now part of the sim – including the legendary oval that is the home of the Indy 500 since 1911. To celebrate the release, the new track is 50% off for a limited time.

Indy is not entirely new to RaceRoom, a 2012 version of the track has been available in the sim already. Now, there is an up-to-date version that features three layouts: Two road course versions, namely the one that the IndyCar series has been using since 2014, and one that uses more of the infield and the banked final turn – plus the 2,5 mile oval that hosts one of the biggest races in the world each year.

This does not mark the oval premiere of RaceRoom, though: The Daytona International Speedway features an oval layout as well, which is listed as “not supported”, however, and is not used in official sessions as a result. This designation is absent from the Indy oval, the layout is the central element of the release – a video and a screenshot that RR used to promote the release underline that.

Special oval rules like full-course yellows are not part of RaceRoom so far and have not been part of the Indy addition either, and the IndyCars in the sim, officially called Formula RaceRoom US, do not have their speedway aero configurations available. It is possible that these things will be added in the future – especially since there is another oval at the Lausitzring, which has five road course layouts so far, waiting to be fully realized.

After the release of the TT Circuit Assen, which has been added to the track roster in mid-January, Indianapolis marks the second release for RaceRoom in 2022. Until February 2nd, the new version of Indy is 50% off in the RaceRoom store – a great opportunity to try the circuit. Owners of the previous version will have to buy the new one separately, as this is not an update to the existing track.

Are you curious about the new Indy layouts? Would you like to see oval racing joining the RaceRoom feature list? Let us know in the comments below!

So, is it as you say an update and therefore you get it in game when you bought the "old" track?
Or do you buy this again?
And if so; do you keep the 2012 version AND the new one or does it replace?

The 2022 version is still separate, so everyone does indeed have to purchase this new release if they want to race on the updated layouts and the oval. It is handled like a completely new track in that regard.

This release of an oval in isolation doesn't make a huge amount of sense to me. As the article points out without the oval aero setups and full course yellows oval racing will be pretty limited. Also the Indy road course is pretty rubbish.

I love race room and played the ranked multiplayer extensively after the new FFB patch. Ultimately though I got bored because despite owning all the content the multiplayer only uses the same 8 or so tracks and a similarly small range of cars.

When they do occasionally throw in some of the other cars and tracks it's often tied to the long races that run once an evening and I often can't spare the time at that time. I'd consider buying more tracks/cars but not if I hardly ever get to race them online. I already hardly use about 75% of the content I've bought.

No one will be poorer off $3, but RRE pricing always surprises me. I already have Indianapolis and that should be included in the available track.

I'm willing to pay for a graphic update, or at least something more revolutionary than another layout of "another" track that's already been.

As far as I understand, there are almost 10 years between the versions. So it's not another layout, it's a fresh build, like a new track.
They probably re-used parts that are still there but depending on how much has changed, this was probably similar amount of work like a completely new track...

LOL 'This is not an update. Owners of the previous version (ten years old?!!) will have to buy the new one separately.'
Perhaps they'll sell more tracks twice if they get away with this. Nice little earner.

Oval circuit without yellow flags and without aerodynamic configuration of indycars?
No, thanks.

They should fix the ai before they release any more tracks! You can't even use them around portimao, monza, norisring to name a few. Yellow flags at the same corners all the time with cars that are spinning all over the place, there are even yellow flags at norisring right before the lights go green cos a number of cars peel off to the left and decide to hit the wall:laugh:  On top of that whichever ai car is leading decides to hit the turbo boost button and starts doing laptimes 4/5/6 seconds faster than everyone else! Shame really as the wtcr cars are excellent but i wont buy anymore tracks till they fix it!

Nice!
They ran Daytona oval on the ranked servers over the holidays and it was a BLAST. Hoping they'll do the same with Indy

I already fell for it with Brands Hatch but I love that circuit so couldn't resist.

I noticed with the Formula USA cars at Indy oval, that they slow up in some of the corners and you wind up running into them if your down low. The Daytona Oval seems fine to me, wish they would put out a Nascar mod. Other than that, it seems fine.

Nice to see RaceRoom coming out with new content!

BUT... the oval makes no sense to me. Feels like a communications slipup. Hopefully they will clarify that at Indy (like at Daytona) the oval is not officially supported.

Precisely. And that's a gentle way of putting it. I'm not normally the pessimistic type, but the oval being added to RaceRoom is useless. The sim has no support for the main features this type of racing requires.

And yes... I'm sure you can have a silly laugh in online races with self-policed cautions in something overly high-downforce like GT3 Camaro cars or whatever on the Daytona oval (hopefully with an asymmetrical setup). But that's like those ludricrous oval races in GT3 cars in GT Sport at Hashbrown Raceway (or whatever it's called). It's so far from simulation that a sim racing developer can't claim it as a reason to add officially supported content.

Now... if this means RaceRoom is adding oval-oriented features and taking that kind of racing seriously... heck, that'd be great! But I'd be beyond shocked if that's what's going on.

These are my first impressions about running the new Indy track with the Indycars.
  • The default setup offers no challenge when driving the track. Foot to the floor with no problems the entire track. Definitely need to adjust the setup so you are on the edge and going fast.
  • Driving with others on the track is all about drafting. Slingshot is the name of the racing. Very fun.
  • Going down the main straight at Indy has to be one of the most graphicly insensitive situations in all of Raceroom. I needed to turn down graphics details to get smooth frame rates. I am running a 3080 Ti.
  • More than other cars and tracks, the triple screens are very cool. Watching the car next to you while you are running side-by-side is very immersive.
Overall great updates and I am very happy with the addition.

Care to post your setup that takes the cars to the edge and going fast?

What is the resolution of the triple screens you run?
