Polyphony Digital Takes Us For a 4K Ride at Daytona

Polyphony Digital shared a 4K video of both onboard and TV replays of a lap at Daytona International from the upcoming Gran Turismo 7.

Just 50 days remain until the release of Gran Turismo 7 to PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, and developer Polyphony Digital is showing more of what players can expect on release day.

The latest teaser is a 4K video shared to both YouTube and the official Gran Turismo Twitter account, which shows a racing Porsche weaving through traffic on a lap of Daytona International Speedway. Both the onboard footage and a TV replay are featured in the video.

The footage from the game is undoubtedly gorgeous, but if the current footage is indicative of the driving experience at release, it looks to be much the same as Gran Turismo Sport, a title that didn't meet the standards of many hardcore sim fans.

Gran Turismo 7 is set to be released on March 4th of this year, and all indications so far point to a return to the Gran Turismo series' roots. Players will be able to grow and customize a huge car collection, and many of favourite fantasy tracks will be making a return.

Will you be playing GT7 on release, waiting for reviews, or are you not interested at all? Let us know in the comments below.

Cons:

Personally, I do not care for 4K. For me, no need to, no matter game and genre, and not refering to the next point:

Driving I do principally in VR exclusively. No VR - not of interest. Why would I want to drive on screen in 2D if I can drive in stereoscopic 3D?

The AI is typically GT, it seems. Reliably doing the little that it does, but lame. These days it just does not do the trick anymore like it did twenty years ago.

Pros:

It looks nice, visually.

I see no argument here to get myself a PS5, and the new GT.

Even photorealistic 8K graphics would not make me play this game with simcade handling, lackluster FFB and laughable AI pace and challenge difficulty.
I remembered trying out a single race at an experience center playing GT Sport with a wheel as a sim racer. With a Merc GT3, I overtook all of the Professional AI in Dragon Trail in one lap. I was like, that's it? Could relate to you well. :(

Looks great but I ask myself why it is a $500 console can get graphics like that and my PC crashes when I try and run ACC or AMS2 with mid-range settings at 1080p and forget about at night or in the rain.

GT looks good, this new edition of the same game, yet again, will probably sell well to the demographic it is developed for.
Looks usually wears thin fairly quickly, so let’s hope, many new GT user will develop an appetite for the dark side and join our ranks to discover what this hobby is really about. As a long term GT transfuge I am ready to welcome the newcomers when they will feel ready for a more substantive SIM diet.

It looks amazing, as usual with the GT franchise.

But I will not buy it, because it is Gran Turismo and I don't care for these titles. I do my simracing on a PC. Also, I would have to get a PS5, which right now is almost impossible.

Because your PC has a cooling issue or is from like 2015?

Temperatures are never above 75 on the GPU and mid 60's on the CPU. Runs R3E, iRacing and rFactor2 on triples with high settings with no issues and over 100fps (less when in traffic). I have an i5 6600k, GTX 1070ti and 16GB of RAM, but if a new PC is in order I'm not sure I will be able to find a GPU.:(

I mean those games all have potato graphics from 2013, but at least you should be able to run AMS2 with that setup. Could be outdated GPU drivers, hardware conflict or a faulty memory problem.

Myself like many others are great fans of the Gran Turismo series, and it is because of it that I got a PC and wheel to experience racing simulations.
In my case I was incredibly frustrated with the game. This game has lacked and always will lack many options (first and foremost, FOV) and features, and it's got god knows how many details that infuriate people like me who are passionate about motorsport (seeing GT3 cars racing on par with GTEs is one example), not to mention the closed nature of a console system (no mods, must use a licensed wheel to get FFB). So there's no need to mention physics to say that this is not a simulator, it's simply a racing game, a generic one but still enjoyable for many reasons.
GT4 enchanted me, it felt like an interactive digital museum, and it was quite challenging for me at the time, but both aspects are sorely lacking today so I get no satisfaction racing down this nostalgia lane that it has become.
