PC Building Giant Linus Tech Tips Builds Dream Sim Rig

Linus Tech Tips, best known for PC building and computer hardware reviews, has assembled a high-end sim racing setup.

It's so common for online personalities to post content featuring their sim racing rigs that we forget it how far our hobby has come in recent years. The latest big name to shine a light on the sim racing world is Linus Tech Tips. The Vancouver based online media giant posted a video featuring a new sim rig build with some impressive gear.

The video, titled "Building the ULTIMATE Racing Setup", amassed nearly one million views in the first day. The premise of the video was the LTT team building a triple-4K sim racing setup with motion.

Here are the major components used:
The test drive was done at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Assetto Corsa. Nords is a tough track for even an experienced sim racer, but Linus' inexperience and frustrations were evidently overcome by the huge fun factor of this incredible setup.

A high profile content creator like Linus Tech Tips is another sign of the growth of sim racing, and a nice showcase of some of the great gear you can find in the RaceDepartment Store.

Are there any components of the Linus Tech Tips build that are on your wishlist? Is there anything you agree or disagree with in the build based on your own experiences? Let us know in the comments below.

Wow that's some serious load of affiliate marketing links in that video ! And then even extra video-in advertorials in the end of that video... Not newsworthy HERE imo, BUT since he has 1 million subs it could lead to more people in sim racing; which is always a good thing :)

He's a tech guru I know, I've been watching his videos for years.
That makes this video even worse.
I guess his doesn't take simracing serious enough.
But nevertheless, I would do my own research.
Imagine making a video about RC cars/planes, and present it like it's an overpriced toy for middle age crisis.
I mean, its always a thing about what you care about, this isn't something new, you dont care MUCH to learn about things that dont interest you. Why would you care to learn about which guitar hero plastic guitar is better for you if you dont care much about the hobby but still wanna have one? Or the same can be said about flight sim, a dedicated fan will know a lot better what to buy and how to build than linus but that's because they have more interest in the topic. The entire point of a hobby being friendly to beginners isn't just to be cheap to get into but also to not require a lot of info to know what to do at first.

Who needs Boosted Media & the Sim Racing Garage when you have Linus Tech Tips. His guide on assembling the wheel was excellent. I also liked the D-Box calibration process.

All u need is enough money. Personally: if i had to spend 20.000 euro's on gaming gear to play a racing game, instead i would spend the money on real track time, getting a race license

Couldn't agree less. How much can you actually drive for 20k? Almost nothing, and then only 1 track and maybe 2-3 cars and a few laps for a few days and the fun is over... I spend like half of that(no motion system here but the rest top notch) and I enjoy sim racing every day, I wouldn't trade that for a day or two on a racetrack, never in my life.

I just knew Linus was somehow into our world!
Jumped on the LTT wagon some 3 years ago, haven't watched all the vids, but sometimes I had the feeling reading something between the lines of Linux' words that the 'gaming' he spoke about was simracing.
Could be great with a major YT channel like LTT to chat and promote just a bit on hardcore simracing, now and then. A newyear wish :inlove:
Linus is into whatever trending and give views and money. Don't put your expectations to high. I like Linus and I respect him but I think he is just doing his job here. Anyway nice to see him promoting sim racing.

Stupid new trend with youtubers reacting to other youtubers material. What kind of loser you must be to do that.

I'd say that's at the foundation of all social media... comment/critique/criticise/react to what other people say/post... won't say it makes you a loser, but it may not be chique sometimes. :coffee:

The only thing he has that I don't have (yet) is the P1-X. I got confirmation today on the following:
'
  1. P1-X (Fanatec Mount)
  2. Sim Lab Single Monitor Stand
  3. Sim Lab pedal tray and slider
  4. Sim Lab seat slider
  5. Sim Lab seat bracket
  6. Sim Lab keyboard tray
  7. Sim Lab mouse platform
  8. Sim Lab P1 upgrade kit
  9. Sparco EVO L QRT

Was thinking about going from a 9900K to a 12900K, but that CPU won't make much of a difference at this point. The money spent on motherboard, memory and cooler upgrades wont' buy much. I already have a 3080ti, with a 38" 3840x1600 LG monitor so I think I am good.

"Heaven, I'm in heaven" :D:D:D
The jump from 9900K (tuned) to the 12900K (tuned) + DDR4 @ 4000Mhz (tuned) is very high in VR according to a friend of mine who did that investment.

Well... ultimate can't be with a Fanatec DD2, sure, it's good, but a far cry from the best.
And.. ultimate can't be with those smallish screens and... not even aligned. To the very least, he should have mounted the monitors properly and used a bezel free kit.

Great vid! They have had much fun and will have it next - and that s exactly what counts.

I get sick on the back seat of cars and had ZERO issues with VR. Incredible, to be honest.
It may have helped that it started (and continues) with rF2 which "head-physics" I left at 100% as it's superbly implemented.

My other VR issus is an IPD of 70. Limits the options.
