Introducing Mod of the Month

As a way to thank the wonderful creators of so many awesome mods hosted here on RaceDepartment we are introducing a new initiative called "Mod of the Month".

We love mods. Whod'a thought it, right? Quite simply we want to give back to the modding community in a fun way, enter, Mod of the Month.

We have put together a team of experts from the RD staff to evaluate mods hosted on this website. We will congregate once a month to view the suggestions from the community and we will award a mod the soon to be coveted title of "Mod of the Month".

We will be judging the mods on a number of key factors depending on the type of mod, for example cars will be judged on handling/physics, 3D model, interior etc.

The winner will get a tag on their resource asset picture showing the rest of the community that this mod was selected as MotM, but more importantly we are going to reward the author(s) a $150,00 Amazon voucher. With everything that's happened recently with the Sim Dream controversy this would obviously be contingent on the mod being validated as scratch built or has the explicit permission of the original author.

We will have an internal discussion to choose our inaugural MotM award but If you would like to recommend a mod for evaluation by our team you can drop us a comment on this thread, or reach us on Twitter via @racedepartment using the hashtag #RDMOTM with the link to the mod.

Keep your eyes peeled for the first winner of MotM in the coming days.

great idea... this is something that helps a lot for newbies to filter some must have mods when there is something like a "hall of fame" or so to honor them and make them visible easy... It is a shame that some of the most important mods want have that Mod of the Month award than because they came out before this MotM award was there ... stuff like SOL and so on should have that ;-)
or you can just go to the mod category which you want and filter the content and sort it by ratings :D

I'm old. My mods are old. So I'm guess I'm out of the picture :ninja:

I often check for quality stuff here, so looking forward to see what's being chosen in case I missed some cool mods
No not at all. We will do something in the way of best existing mod and best new mod.

Not being biased at all but I vote for https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/f1-megapack.34079/

Or

Hahaha honestly though top stuff. You may recall I made a post about the RSR mod about a year ago. Love your work man.

The winner will get a tag on their resource asset picture showing the rest of the community that this mod was selected as MotM...
Question: Will this award-marker stay after a new MOTM is declared?

The restriction of mods having to be hosted here at RD indeed makes it more difficult for rF2 mods, since a lot of them are in the Steam Workshop only on a subscription base. Asking modders to host the rF2 packages here as well is not something they may like. E.g. ASR Formula offers their rF2 mods through Steam workshop and their own website already. But also on AC you have high quality mod studios like RSS and VRC that host their mods on their own websites.

"With everything that's happened recently with the Sim Dream controversy"

What happened here? I'm out of the loop

In all seriousness though, I like the idea of recognizing significant mods here. So many people give us great work, and deserve more recognition. If I could add a suggestion, I think also adding a few runner-ups would be good too. I'd fear that the MotM could overshadow many other great mods. Just an idea. Either way, you guys rock, and I'm loving the new look here at RD!

So long as MOTM's can be set as a search filter option that'll be fine; top-tier mods are great and all but showcasing them shouldn't come as a detriment to those who haven't hit it big yet.

I disagree. If a content creator puts the time in and delivers something that is clearly above all else in terms of quality, he or she deserves the attention of a showcase. Recognition might translate to motivation and the entire community will benefit.
