Hyundai i30 Completes rFactor 2 Q3 Content Drop

It has been decided. After Gateway, Mini and Caterham, the final piece of content in Q3 will be a new BTCC car. And none other than the Hyundai i30.

Backed by positive feedback after the first 2 BTCC cars, Studio 397 aim to further its offering of the British Touring Car Championship.

As such, this release follows up on Studio 397's "intention to bring the full grid to life within rFactor 2".

Now, the previous statement was more interesting than the actual release of the car. The reason is simple:

We've Got More BTCC Coming!

If we take a look at the BTCC 2022 season, we can see the following cars:
  • Ford Focus ST
  • Hyundai i30 - coming Q3
  • Toyota Corolla GR - released Q2
  • BMW 330e M
  • Honda Civic Type R
  • Infiniti Q50 - released Q2
  • Cupra León
  • Vauxhall Astra
So if the aforementioned promise holds true for this season, there are still 5 more cars to come for the British series.

I look forward to the Vauxhall Astra most. But what would you like to see coming to rFactor 2? Let us know in the comments down below!

Not so excited.

The first couple of BTCC cars came with abysmal quality liveries, really lazy job.

Then we have Raceroom which is a pretty mediocre simulation of GT, LMP, single seater classes - if it does one thing well, that is touring cars. So there we have a solid game with complete functionality, lots of tracks and capable AI for touring car racing.

So there is just no reason to me to race TC with the low quality liveries and broken AI of rFactor2.

There are a few liveries available here, on Race Department and if you were not lazy, you would have read that the AI can work really well with some tweaks.
And you don't take my word for it, read the testimonial a few commentaries above, of someone who had just made those tweaks.
Frankly, the only thing which seems irreparably broken is people's unwillingness to spend the same amount of time they do sh!t-posting, doing a 5 minute change to the player.json file...
For crying out loud...

Agreed, those BTCC liveries are horrible. At least put some effort in it or only give official liveries.

Thanks for the hints but I have tweaked my player.json already and 10 people will tell you 10 different settings which works for them.

AI settings are not the reason that for each track-car combination, I need to find the difficulty setting between 99 and 110 with each new session taking minutes because of loading time (even if I had started a spreadsheet to track my times and diff settings), run a full practice which even with times acceleration takes much time. The player json can be or be not ideal for that particular track. The AI may have a corner in which they are so slow that it makes the track unraceble. For mod tracks, you can ran into the fast rolling start being broken. I still have the bug where AI cars are abruptly spinning near me as if I had some magical aura pushing them. These are not about player json.

I'm still doing this because rFactor is miles ahead for RWD cars. But for me it's not worth for TC where you can load and jump into Raceroom qualifying in seconds, run 4 laps and you'll be racing in 5 minutes with decent, reliable AI.

Why are you comparing AI behaviour on mod tracks with the AI behaviour on RR’s tracks?
Personally in most quality tracks I don’t need to change the AI strength to get consistent opponents.
Car to car, yes, there is variation on both ends - me and the AI parameters.

Tomorrow, Studio 397 will deploy the 2022 Q3 August Content Drop for rFactor 2, expanding the simulator with some fresh new content, and a significant list of new features and improvements that will uplift the current rF2 gameplay experience.

New Content:

New and Updated Features:

  • New anti-lock brake system
  • traction control behavioral changes
  • ABS behavioral changes
  • New tender spring
  • New track limits functionality
  • Dynamic track enhancements ( provisionally labeled Real Road 2.0.)
  • 16 USB devices support

First fix the damn AI in slipstream speed and brake checking. Fix it and then release new content

Should've posted this earlier so it would've reached more people. Oh well.

Standard procedure applies: Do not by the Q3 content the minute it goes on Steam. Wait some hours. It takes time to get everything online, updated and in order on the Steam Store. Don't do the common mistake of buying right away, before any potential pack-discount have been added. Very often the complete Q-pack is all prices added together. It take some time before the price falls a bit. There are always people complaining about this. Wait a few hours!

Also, if you want all content. Pack is always cheaper than single bits and pieces.

You should think about adding this disclaimer to rF2 content articles by default or at least make it the first comment under the article by the author. It would probably help to avoid some anger with the game.

I often don't think. That's a recurring theme for me.

Problem with that, is that after a few times people just ignore it, and forgets about it.

But then that's on them and you did your part to remind people :) You can't force them to listen.

No I see the problem, I have the same at work sometimes. Maybe condense it down to a single line and plant it in the middle of the article, with an asterisk to a bottom text or comment with the details if you feel it to be necessary?

Only complaint I have is that they included Neates name in the liveries for the focus

So my question is, when will they release the rest of the BTCC cars, Q4 ? all 4 cars or again 2 in Q4 and another 2 next year in Q1 ?

4 cars and new Snetterton and Thruxton where they can stretch their legs :x3:

For Christmas and be snappy about it

If there is still 5 cars to come and more Brit tracks then this will be the most expensive Series DLC in the history of sim racing :)
