Have Your Say - What’s Your Next Major Sim Racing Purchase?

Next Major Sim Hardware Purchase 01.jpg
Continuing our Have Your Say series, today we want to know what you plan to buy for your next major sim racing purchase.

Sim racing is an ever-evolving hobby. The best hardware or software in your price range from today may be eclipsed by something newer or better next year. Those of us with a bit of extra money to spend on our hobby are always on the lookout for ways to improve our immersion and enjoyment.

With Black Friday sales right around the corner, many of us in the sim community are plotting our next big buy. We want to know in the comments below what yours will be. For some of you it might be a game you’ve been waiting for a sale on. For others it might be upgrading to a direct drive wheel or a load cell brake pedal. Or maybe you’ve finally saved enough money to buy that motion setup.

Often the buildup to a big purchase is as exciting as clicking the “Buy Now” button itself. Researching a specific type of hardware and learning which brands and products stand out in their respective field, for example, adds to the excitement of adding it to your rig. If you’re at that stage, or still early in the research process, let us know in the comments below. And if you see someone looking for feedback on a product you already own, be sure to help them out by sharing your own experiences with it.

Not going to do a motion rig, or VR so it's a matter when/if the hardware I have fails or becomes obsolete. In that case a DD wheelbase and the latest CPU/GPU combo.

I have all the bits in my basement (minus mobo arriving today) to put together my new PC. I have to reuse my 980 ti though given the GPU market. If I could get a newer GPU for not-insane money, I would. And if $400 fell from the sky I'd LOVE the Thrustmaster SF1000 wheel. But other than that, I'd like a car in AMS2 with a properly tuned differential...

i foresee my next big buy being whatever the next vr headset will be. still on a rift cv1. considered the index if it werent for it being lcd instead of oled. probably not a huge deal in sim racing because its usually day time, but i often drive shutoko at night and i also play elite dangerous so led is a big NO for those situations. theres really nothing available right now that id consider a reasonable upgrade. i REALLY want more fov but the only hmds doing that are the pimax and those are just....not there yet....

Probably a new VR glasses like the Varjo Aero to replace the G2 otherwise a new GPU like the nvidia 4000 series when released. Otherwise a new house + motion system (no place for it now)

Probably a Fanatec CSL DD (5Nm should be enough) and a compact simrig on the long run.

Currently also waiting for an RTX 3060 to arrive, so I can get back to skinning and take care some of the updates planned.

Okay, it's going to be funny. I have a chair that's kinda like Ikea POÄNG and I'm planning to buy an actual Ikea POÄNG to go with my wheel stand as it seems it's going to be better (mostly for my posture) than the one I currently have. I don't have a cool rig, I just put my G29 with a Wheel Stand Pro in front of my desk, move the monitor and speakers closer to the wheel and use a chair. It seems this type of chair works for this kind of rig, at least for me. The position in an actual POÄNG is more car-like than the one I have now as well, hopefully it won't make me sit too low for my monitor as I'm not very tall.

I bought the R8 wheel from Jakub. :D
Chatted a bit with him before making the decision, pretty awesome man. I first contacted him during summer, asking if he could do a Z4 GT3 wheel for me. He was open to the idea, maybe we will get that done some day as well...

The R8 looks awesome, too, you building your own R8 now? :)
