GTR Is Set For A Revival

GTR Revival.png
For those who have been around sim racing since the early 2000’s, the GTR series of titles are ones which are firmly etched on the brain.

For many, they are the titles that launch them into the world of sim racing in the first place. From GTR and GTR 2 through to GTR Evolution, the titles stood for realism and brought the world of FIA GT racing into our homes.

Join the conversation in the new GTR Revival forum here

For the last several years, there have been rumours, speculation and the occasional screenshot regarding a proposed GTR 3. However, these have been few and far between and have since dwindled into the background once more.

Today, an announcement has appeared which is completely out of the blue. @Ian Bell once head of Slightly Mad Studios and part of the original GTR development team, tweeted the news that he is working on a new title; GTR Revival.

Not only that, there are several other members of the original development team involved too including; Stephen Viljoen, Andy Garton, Stephen Baysted, Henrik Roos, Johan Roos and Vik Klomiets.

As far as the sim itself is concerned, there are no specific details just yet, but Ian Bell has promised that it will be a hardcore, no compromise title.

Will this be the GTR sequel that we have all been waiting for? Share your thoughts with us below as we await more information on GTR Revival.

(This is a developing story, more soon)

Updates

  • RaceDepartment asked Johan Roos (ex-Simbin) for a quote if the above tweet is true and he replied: "Well I do not deny it but cannot comment any further than Ian already has written and that it sounds like one hell of a game by one hell of a crew".

Hmmm, have heard some Bells ringing before, ending up in haywire and....well, like fumes of GTR3, Thrustmaster DD, MSG- and EA-stuff/marketing-bluff.

But the name dropping is surely teasing me.

Hope Bell et al. walks the walk very soon instead of running on marketing BS fumes.

The mods are a waste for serious gaming....
Especially on a site that largely exists to host mods and forums for modders to discuss things, that's an odd (and dare I say kinda disrespectful) thing to say.

Many mods are poor quality, sure. But then there's what LilSki, JohnR, Arch, Stereo etc. do in AC or Patrick Giranthon and Richard Wilks have done in AMS 1 - plenty "serious" and as good or better than default content in a game. And then there's the fact that many people now working in sim racing (Ian Bell, Aris, Niels) began as modders.

So, suffice it to say that I disagree with your statement.

GTR is the new Star Citizen of Sim Racing, the game that we are still waiting to see in its final version and that will never be released.

We'll see what the future holds.

Ian's Tweet is merely postpartum depression for Steam's ambering of PC2.

It strikes me that Reiza Studios has done a better job developing the Madness engine than Ian & Co. ever did. Seems like we would all be better served if his cohort pitched their talents to Renato.

Welcome back Mr Bell, look forward to what comes of this....just surround yourself with the likes of Reiza , Sector 3, Bugbear, BeamNG developers and you'll have a winner;)....good luck:)

NICE!
Although, I was more of a Race 07 guy.
I don't really need any more games to race GT's in, but hopefully they'll include some vintage stuff. That's always good fun for me.

Simbin UK 2 - The vengeance. I will take my pop corn. The title suggests a GTA Trilogy DE in GTR sauce. They want the money of GTR Series fans.

No decent game was done during the last 15 years. Game studios care about graphics only.
