Gran Turismo 7 | Polyphony issue apology and 1 million credits

Gran Turismo 7 1 million credits.jpg
It would appear that Polyphony have listened to the criticism that Gran Turismo 7 has received and they are taking action. They are paying out 1 million credits to players who have been affected, rectifying many issues highlighted by players, and providing additional races and cars.

Kazunori Yamauchi - President of Polyphony Digital wrote a recent post on the Official PlayStation Blog. He wrote that the GT7 feedback had been heard and that he apologized for the frustration and confusion that was caused last week. The confusion and frustration that he referred to was a player reaction to extended server outage and a change to the in-game economy.

The blog post continued to state that this is not the Gran Turismo experience players should expect and as a goodwill gesture, players will receive a non-paid credit pack of 1 million credits, which will be made available to those who have been affected. This goodwill gesture will be made available to players shortly and must be claimed April 25th.

According to Kazunori Yamauchi, the change to the in-game economy was to rectify an issue with inconsistent reward pay-outs. The whole of the rewards system received a recalculation to accurately reward players based on time investment and completion. However, players can expect a considerable patch early April, where the number of events will increase, and where the reward system will have a greater balance throughout the game.

Updates

Updates that will come into effect at the beginning of April:
  • Increase rewards in the events in the latter half of the World Circuits by approximately 100% on average.
  • Addition of high rewards for clearing the Circuit Experience in all Gold/All Bronze results.
  • Increase of rewards in Online Races.
  • Include a total of eight new one-hour Endurance Race events to Missions. These will also have higher reward settings.
  • Increase the upper limit of non-paid credits in player wallets from 20M Cr. to 100M Cr.
  • Increase the quantity of Used and Legend cars on offer at any given time.

Patches

Additionally, there will be more patches deployed throughout April which will add new cars, course layouts, and fix other issues. Looking further ahead with no confirmed dates, players can expect:
  • Increase the pay-out value of limited time rewards as we develop as a live service.
  • Further World Circuit event additions.
  • Addition of Endurance Races to Missions including 24-hour races.
  • Addition of Online Time Trials and awarding of rewards according to the player’s difference with the top ranked time.
  • Make it so cars can be sold.
Are you happy with this GT7 news? Will it rectify the outrage that so many players had?

I must admit. Buying a ps5 so you can play GT 7 with all the PS 5 has to offer.
Is wasting money for a little less loading time. Otherwise there isn't much else to gain. I've borrowed a PS5 and installed GT 7 and it runs smoothly, and then I installed it on my PS 4 standard and it runs smoothly. There really isn't that much difference and that is like Duh.

The game is alright though, I like it, but I do feel cheated yet again.

Giving virtual money that costs nothing to them, that players already bought as part of their game purchase, is more of an insult than an apology imo. There could even be someone somewhere who is interested in playing a game instead of progressing without playing, so he might not want cheats forced on his game. Though at this day when gamers think that in-game money = real money, everyone and their dog will probaby be praising PD for giving money to players, and all is forgiven.

Codemasters did the same when DR2.0 online singleplayer was down at launch, and reading the comments about it you'd think Codies were giving players a large amount of real money as compensation. Instead of something that costs nothing to them and what every player already bought an infinite amount of. And what at least one DR2.0 player didn't even want.

Changes always has to be done after all the ****storm goes on, after all hatred put on devs. Otherwise they would be like "Phew, luckily it worked for us, nobody complained, we're good to go". At least in this case everything went better for players.

I'm enjoying the game on PS5. I bought a PS5 for the new Horizon zero dawn game. I've also bought GT 7. I won't spend a penny more. Unless it's a decent DLC like for AC or ACC etc.

I only play offline and I'm enjoying the licence's etc. Learning a little at a time. I know it's not a true SIM. But I enjoy it.
I also enjoy all the Sims on PC and some on console.

With ACC, AMS2 and iRacing, who needs this Simcade anyways?
Many people enjoy the single player elements along with progression. This is not something many racing games do these days.

That aside I commend PD for reverting the economy changes however it's sad it created distrust within the community and their customers for no real reason. This whole situation was completely avoidable.

Load times are instant on ps5. Less than a second. Ps4 is like 15 to 30 seconds I think. It adds up quick to the playtime when browsing the menus inside the game causes smaller loads that I'd imagine are instantaneous on ps5.

Who says simracer can not play games with more arcady physics? Is that person no longer a true simracer if he dabbles in the simcade side of this hobby?

People who want to do what GT is best known for:
Buy a slow car, race it, earn money, make it faster, race more, earn more, buy a faster car.

Also people who want to race on their couch using a controller.

Avid PC sim racer here... And really on PC there isn't a good GT like game. Gran Turismo is basically Pokemon with cars. PC has Forza but that's always been a poor substitute. (Don't get me wrong, I like the Forza series. It's just never been as good as Gran Turismo.)

Played Gran Turismo since the second one, great series, and if you're into cars there's nothing else like it.

PS I say this in jest. I think I may have played GT many years ago on an XBox or Playstaton.

"The real car farming simulator".
Kaz wants your money to finance his lifestyle and does not value your time.

You won't be happy no matter what they do.

It's too easy now. The grind has been removed by all these free credits. I was never forced to buy anything. I'm still not. Please simracers, keep on raging. You're destroying the gaming industry like I said you would.

Classic meaningless non-argument. Yeah, players can be treated like garbage because they won't be happy anyway! Not.

What, you're not happy with the game being too easy? That must mean you won't be happy not matter what they do.

No one has claimed you have been forced to buy anything. That is not the point. The fact alone that a game developer sells you a full-price game and then asks you to pay extra money for stuff that you already bought as part of your game purchase, because according to the developer the game is so bad that people should pay real world money to avoid playing it, is more than bad enough, and that's just the beginning. Add to that a completely pointless online singleplayer that prevents players from playing. And that's nowhere near all of it.

The last two lines are so astonishingly ignorant that I won't even start about that. Bottom of the dungheap trolling. No wonder you don't understand.

AMS2 is the only one of these titles that has the potential to ever being close to Gran Turismo. ACC's scope is way too limited, and iRacing is too prohibitive to be a mainstream success. Even AMS2 lacks any kind of console release, or licenses/progression/career, which are severe enough that the regular console gamer wouldn't pick it up for a weekend to play with friends, although with a significant scope change, could be retrofitted.

Simcades exist because some people just want to race fast cars in tight races without a fuss, and that's not a problem. I had fun with Asphalt, NFS2 and F-Zero in my day; hell, I've even played my fair share of Wreckfest, PC3 and Grid in the last few years when I didn't feel like working on my AMS2 setups or working on AC's challenges.

Teenage me wouldn't have ever been interested in iRacing or ACC, and the casual gamer is probably closer to teenage me than adult, Fanatec-rocking cockpit-building SimHub-tweaking me.

We like driving vehicles, and we want the experience to be as realistic and accurate as possible. We want to feel the difference brought forth by adjusting ride height, we want to know if the downforce cost of adding a degree of rear wing angle in the straights is offset by the shorter braking distance.

What simcade fans want to do is race cool looking cars. They want a game that feels realistic. They don't want their fun compromised by reality, whereas we don't want accuracy to be compromised by gimmicks.

The TL;DR is that no matter how gamey you make a sim, simcade is a different paradigm. My brother plays Rocket League and Mario Kart, but he just wants to scream at a TV while drinking a few beers with his friends, he doesn't care about managing one's turbo pressure. And that's perfectly fine.
