The latest iteration of the F1 franchise has been revealed by Electronic Arts and the trailer is intense to say the least.
  • "breaking point" Story mode features heavily
  • Two player championships
  • Real world standings integration with "Real-Season Start"
I'm not afraid to admit that i'm not the biggest F1 games player, but, i'm a sucker for a single player career mode. So I was quite intrigued by the F1 2021 reveal trailer which is if anything cinematic AF! It's fair to say that this looks like it will be the key selling point for the latest title, even if details are a bit thin on the ground at this early stage.

Press Release F1 2021

How far will you go before you reach your 'Braking Point'? It’s time for the next generation with F1® 2021, the official videogame of the 2021 FIA Formula One World Championship ™. Racing onto your PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, or PC via Steam on July 16, F1® 2021 is packed full of brand-new features, which we’ll take a closer look at right here.

What’s new?
Braking Point
Go on an epic journey with 'Braking Point', our brand-new story mode. Rise from the ranks of Formula 2™ to a shot at stardom in the world of Formula 1®. Experience the lifestyle both on and off the track as you take your seat in the pinnacle of motorsport.

That’s not all. After his infamous debut in F1® 2019, Devon Butler is back. We’ll have plenty more to reveal about him and our brand-new story mode, Braking Point in the coming weeks.

Two-Player Career
We’re also excited to reveal a feature you’ve requested for a long time – the ability to play career with your friends, either co-operatively or competitively. As each player will have complete control over the assists, you’ll be able to enjoy the game whether you’re a veteran or a newcomer to the series.

Real-Season Start
F1® 2021’s 'Real-Season Start' feature lets you jump into this season's action, reflecting the live standings, and then you can take over and drive the remaining races. Great for players who want to jump into the season to align with the real-world season.

Next-Generation Experience
For the first time, F1® 2021 is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PS5 with visual uplift and faster loading times, alongside PS4, Xbox One and PC via Steam. And if you’re planning to upgrade, we’re very happy to tell you that F1® 2021 will support Xbox Smart Delivery and PlayStation’s free upgrade if you’re switching to an Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5*.

What’s returning to F1® 2021?
Features you know and love from F1® 2020, such as My Team, two-player split-screen, shorter seasons, accessible options, and F2™ aren’t going anywhere. We’re also expanding and refining many other features, including scalable assist options, driver stats and multiplayer.

Pre-ordering
If you’re excited for F1® 2021, you can pre-order right now. You’ll get the Braking Point Content Pack, a set of exclusive in-game items inspired by the new story experience’s fictional stars, and 5,000 PitCoins.

Our digital Deluxe Edition includes seven soon-to-be-unveiled classic F1® drivers for My Team, three days early access, extra customisation content, 18,000 PitCoins and the Braking Point Content Pack.

We’ll also be adding three new circuits, Portimão, Imola, and Jeddah*, which will be available to all players as free** post-launch content.

No pre-order should be the mantra for whatever game, from whatever company, unless you have solid reasons for knowing that the game will be good/great. For me, being a beta-guy in F1 2020, I knew I liked the way the game was, so that helped out.

I know it's not Christmas, but this describes the pre-order stuff so good.
Pre-orders should be made illegal. there's no reason for them at all in this day of digital delivery. Back in the day when music, games and films were exclusively on physical media it made sense to reserve your copy, but these days you can just buy it on the day of release and get it, or if you want the pathetic skin and discount just buy it the day before.

Early access I'm cool with, in fact all pre-orders should be made available as early access. I love early access as it allows me to provide feedback and help with the game in question. Pre-orders on the other hand is just me handing over money and not getting anything for an often very extended period of time.

Not everything in a game series needs to change. Not everything in the past games were bad, otherwise why has everyone been been modding them nearly to death instead of chucking them to the curb?

Now we seem to be getting Portomino in the game and the return of Immola, plus classic cars from before and hopefully more, but that would be considerably limited. Anyone asking for an entire classic season in addition to what's in the game already might as well have a separate game dedicated to that classic season, like the NASCAR Legends game Papyrus did in the late 90s focusing on the 1970 season. But I like the return of Immola, and want to run at Portomino, and the fact these are supposed to be "free."

Plus, some off-track drama as well. Not sure how well that will work, or if that belongs in a racing game, but one could argue that since a lot of drivers in F1 do and have gone through their respective shares of such things in real life, it might as well be in. This could help or hurt the game easily.

Myteam is back and now there's co-op career mode, which people should be happy about. The 'real season start' leaves me with mixed feelings. I won't use it, but others might. At least Portomino and Immola might be part of the career mode schedule.

Oh, and Devon Butler is back. Think on that for a moment. Yet they mentioned Butler's return, but not Lukas Weber's. Does that mean Weber's dead?

But as all have noted, this is now an EA game. I'll be watching this one cautiously. Maybe I'll preorder, maybe I'll wait a few patches later. Depends on how much more they have to show. Better to have a game with copy-paste features and graphics that work well, than to have a flashy game that doesn't work... even if it has VR.

If its good I'll buy it in a Steam sale at the end of the year or whenever. I enjoy the career mode and My Team was a nice new feature last time, the Devon Butler aspect though can go in the bin along side the fake Twitter bs from Pcars

I've seen some AAA titles do this. I think that the latest Call of Duty did something like this, where pre-orders got access to the game 3-4 days earlier than the official "release" date.

Of course, the problem with that is you are even more of a beta tester as you will get more playtime before the 1.1 patch.

At the end of the year you might as well wait for F1 2022 which will most likely be 99% the same game except it will feature 2022-spec cars.

That's one problem with these annual re-releases that there is never really a good time to buy them. They are not worth buying at full price since it's just a glorified patch to an existing game plus games nowadays are invariably released grossly unfinished, but after you wait a while it's almost time for the next game.

Epic fail trailer, You'll never make me buy a game without seeing a single gameplay image

Watching over the years this progression. I'm amazed that people buy this game every year at full price. Every year they add something to last years and then charge the full price. I dont get that??

Nah. I got Formula Hybrid 2021 with Community skinpack. No need for EA trash when I can drive a million times better quality F1 car. And I'm not overly excited to pay real world money for PitCoins, whatever the hell they are.

btw, am I autistic or something because I don't get super excited about these "cinematic" trailers that show basically nothing of the actual game? I mean, they are kind of cool and all, but they have next to nothing to do with the actual game.
Good luck racing offline!
Less arcade-PRG contents and more "simracing" stuffs. This game is the same one since 2018 at least, no improvements in driving model or tyre or feedback, only bullshits for children.
CM should sell it as an "update" like Konami did with PES this year
Have you actually tried the newest ones?

Disclaimer: in my opinion F1 2020 is one of the most enjoyable titles for offline racing. Sure the driving is not AC/RSS quality, the tracks are not ACC quality. The actual driving model has improved quite a bit every year in my opinion, 2020 being the best so far. It provides a package that cannot be reproduced in any other sim. I am probably not going to try these new "gimmicks," but if they continue their usual improvement of the core experience, I will be happy.

And again without VR support ? sorry but you can't take that seriously anymore. All sim racer have vr support for years. apparently codmaster is more interested in skimming than to care about customer wishes. so again a year I skip. let's see if they make it in 2050, then I buy it maybe

We’ll also be adding three new circuits, Portimão, Imola, and Jeddah*, which will be available to all players as free** post-launch content.
Guess they had to add that line since with EA now running things it wouldn't have come as a surprise if those 3 were paid DLC
