Navigating RD's Massive Collection of Mods for Assetto Corsa

7 years after the release of Assetto Corsa for PC, Kunos Simulazioni’s fan-favourite racing sim is more popular than ever. An impressive modding community has formed around AC, allowing owners to race almost any car at almost any track they can imagine. Plus, apps, sounds and other enhancements can be found here as well.

To take advantage of the plethora of mods on offer for Assetto Corsa on PC, here are some tips to maximize your AC experience.

Browse the Cars and Tracks ​

Assetto Corsa is, of course, a racing simulator. So the huge selection of cars and tracks that can be found here at RaceDepartment are a great starting point. Community members have shared all cars with us, spanning 100 years and including road cars, race cars, and even imaginative fantasy vehicles. And the same can be said for tracks, as the talented modding community has brought us tracks from around the world old and new. The combination of these cars and tracks are nearly endless, so take a few minutes to browse AC Cars and AC Tracks resources to find something (or many things) that piques your interest.

Get them Installed ​

A common question in the sim community is “how do I install mods for Assetto Corsa?” Thankfully, Paul has us covered. Installing mods for Assetto Corsa is usually a drag-and-drop exercise, but in case you do you have questions, refer to Paul’s popular tutorial video here:


Expand AC with Apps, Sounds, Liveries and More ​

There’s so much more to the mods here at RaceDepartment than just cars and tracks. Better Call Sol ​

One of the most popular mods ever on RD is Sol by Peter Boese. Sol is a weather enhancement tool for Assetto Corsa. Whereas the basic version of AC limited your weather scenarios, Sol gives you more options and more control over your weather settings while driving. Peter's Sol download page provides both a link to Peter’s installation guide PDF and an embedded video with step-by-step instructions on how to install it.

Subscribe to Your Favourite Resources and Creators​

A cool and sometimes overlooked feature of the RaceDepartment website is the “Subscribe” button found at the top of each page on our community website. If you want to stay up to date on the latest cars, tracks or any other aspect of Assetto Corsa, all you need to do is click the Subscribe button. You can choose whether you want to be notified for new downloads and updates or just new downloads, and whether you prefer to be notified with only the bell icon at the top of your RD page or via email. And you can keep up with the activities of your favourite creators and personalities here as well by simply clicking on their username and choosing the “follow” option. And don’t worry, both can be undone if you wish by simply clicking unsubscribe or unfollow.

Assetto Corsa is a truly comprehensive racing simulator with an almost inexhaustible number of ways to expand what, where and how you drive it. But if all this change has you feeling in over your head, or can’t find a specific setting, or have any other questions relating to Assetto Corsa, there’s a large, active and friendly Assetto Corsa community here at RaceDepartment that can probably help you resolve whatever issues you’re facing.

is there still nothing for ac similar to the steam workshop that allows me to subscribe to a mod then let it update itself? i come to RD literally every day and it gets exhausting trying to keep everything up to date. and forget about keeping up with the mods that arent even on RD to begin with. beamng does it pretty well with its mod repository built into the game.

Just use Content Manager. Some car- and track mods will autoupdate with the CM feature. Haven't looked more in exactly how and from which sites, I just discover it now and then ;-)

There is, pack all skins into mods by car model and use jsgme, ovge or content manager to enable/disable them

As well put stock skins into mods so you can remove them without having to disable skins individually

I’m guessing because Content Manager isn’t hosted on RD, it’s not advertised here. Why would you write an article about how RD is the ultimate repository for AC mods, then direct people to go to a different site?

RD is usually where to go when it comes to quality mods for Assetto. There are lots of other sites, some with a huge collection of stol… sorry, converted cars for AC, but generally when you come to RD you know it’s going to be at least half decent as a minimum, ranging right through to ‘better than Kunos can do’

"We are also working on a new set of tools to make finding mods easier. Browsing by car model and type, track regions etc, this will come pretty soon after we have ensured all the existing functionality is working. One thing that does frustrate the crap out of me with RD downloads is that all the cars are lumped into the same folder. It would be better if there were sub categories such as Road Cars, GT, Open Wheelers, Fun Projects (Like lawn movers and bathtubs). Maybe even go down to manufactures like on other sites. Same goes for skins, tracks etc. With tracks you could have circuits based on a sub cat of country. Just an idea to make things easier for the user.

Just chiming in to the Content Manager topic to make it more visible.

If you don't use Content Manager, you better start using it. It makes installing and organizing mods so much easier. And not just that, it also makes everything around AC much more convenient and faster.

Got many issues with CM or CSP
So now i go with AC vanilla + "tiny" CSP + assetto by night. It's so much reliable and easy to make it work.
For installing mods, PP filters, skins, etc i use JSGME and i'm editing tags in cars of tracks files for example to quickly setup a race with street cars, hypercars, GT3, road tracks etc.
So no need of CM at this time and i got zero bugs or incompatibility

Content. Manager.

It cannot be overstated how damn good this piece of software is, and how it transforms this title. It's mainly this what has made me very invested in AC lately. I ignored this sim for years, but now it's my main go to sim, to the point of organizing a championship and special events with it!

yeah, and the search doesn't help much either, you can sort of find some skins but you end up finding more using google search.
Also if the name doesn't contain the correct car/model name is hard to find.
At least some mayor categories like GT3 Cars, Road cars, or some category to narrow down the skins
