Art of Rally Kenya Update Preview

Art of Rally Kenya 01.jpg
Art of Rally’s newest setting, Kenya, is released August 12th, but Funselektor was kind enough to allow me to preview the new stages.

Next week promises to be a big week for developer Funselektor and their Art of Rally title. Not only is the retro-inspired racing game coming to Xbox and Switch, but the Kenya stages will also be released.

I contacted Funselektor and they were kind enough to allow me to be among the first outside of the studio to try the new Kenya stages.

Kenya joins Finland, Germany, Japan, Norway, and Sardinia locations in the title. Unsurprisingly the setting is gorgeous. The brilliant use of lighting and shadows make the trackside animals, trees, grass and water a stunning locale to rally race in. Add rain, fog or night conditions, and those objects become faint or barely discernible outlines, which is beautiful in its own way.

The Kenyan stages range from long, flat, and very fast treks across the desert to mountain ascents. Like the real-world Kenyan rally stages, Art of Rally tests you through long and dusty stages, and Funselektor even thought to add in the occasional washed-out road. There are 6 tracks included in the Kenya location, plus variants of each track.

For those that haven’t yet tried Art of Rally, the title is a fun rally racing game intended to be driven with a controller. The visuals, sounds and general feel of the title give the impression of this being purely a fun game, but Funselektor’s love for the sport of rally racing shines through in various aspects, including the wide selection of vintage rally cars and the unique driving physics of each.

Below is my preview video of the Art of Rally Kenya update. Art of Rally is out now on PC and will be available on Xbox and Switch on August 12th, 2021. The Kenya update will be released the same day.

Question for me is how its gonna be intergrated into the career ?!

Because just for driving single stages or multiplayer its a shame

I’d like to make my Fanatec wheel and pedals work with this game. I know it’s a strange request, but my cerebral palsy makes it hard to use a gamepad. If anyone has a workaround, I’d love a tutorial on how to do it!

Wheels work but no FFB sadly (not on the roadmap either atm)

edit: I have an update. Antony messaged me apologizing. He works with disabled athletes and said Google translate didn’t quite translate him right. We are all good, but I still appreciate everybody’s support. I’m still thankful we removed the message as it was still poorly phrased. I wish Antony the best in his endeavors. Thank you.

original reply:
Look, I appreciate what you’re trying to say, but as a journalist, filmmaker and marketing professional, let me help you understand some disability etiquette. Cerebral palsy exists. It exists as a result of lack of oxygen in the brain that leads to motor impairment. That’s a medical fact, and not treating as so is disability blindness. Please don’t do it.
As far as trying to save the day, I’m good. I can race just fine and have dominated several races.

Moderators, please consider editing his original comment. I haven’t battled and overcome my disability for 28 years for someone to say it doesn’t exist. It’s a disrespect to me and everyone battling cerebral palsy out there.

I currently have 22 rally games on my HD.
Oddly, this casual pick up 'n play arcade-ish game is probably the best of the bunch. It's the one I seem to have the most fun playing, anyway.
Takes me back to CMR2 on the PS1

I don't have 22 but I agree aor's physics is amazing and incredibly intuitive but with enough gusto that if you're silly it will bite.

I also enjoy how if you wanna treat it as a chill-out, zen game there's a mode for that; if you want a more sim-like experience you can put the damage on and you have to focus on keeping the car on the road and optimise lines balancing risk and reward and there's also the true leaderboard mode where risk is always rewarded and skips are common-place .

While the longevity in the game is mostly in the Time Attack mode and Daily/Weekly events I still think anyone with an appreciation for driving can pick up aor with it's sim-ish physics, gorgeous artstyle and banging soundtrack and have a blast.
