SimBin UK Closes Social Media Accounts

SimBin UK, the developer behind the supposedly forthcoming GTR3 racing title, has closed their social media accounts.

In what may prove to be the last news we hear about GTR3, developer SimBin UK has pulled the source of the trickle of information we were getting about the upcoming title. The developer closed their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts Sunday.

GTR3 was first teased in January of 2017. It caught the attention of the sim racing world, as its predecessor GTR2 holds legendary status with many in the community. Our Paul Jeffery interviewed two members of the SimBin team the next month, and things were looking promising. SimBin even hoped to have the title in a playable state the same year.

Things seemed to only get worse from there. Over the succeeding years, information about the title became sporadic, and a few teaser images per year became standard. GT3 class cars seemed to be the sole focus of the title, and though the screenshots looked impressive, some began to question SimBin’s strategy of developing a GT3 title using the Unreal Engine given that Kunos Simulazioni had already established themselves in exactly that market with Assetto Corsa Competizione.

Although most in the sim racing community had since given up on GTR3 ever seeing the light of day, there was a faint hope that one day we’d open Twitter, Instagram or Facebook and see a new post from SimBin with a release date or at least some gameplay footage. But those information channels have now been closed, along with our collective hopes of a sequel to GTR2 in the immediate future.

Closing social media accounts doesn’t preclude GTR3 ever being made, of course, but given the unusually long and vague development process we’ve witnessed, it seems probable that this is the deathblow for SimBin UK’s GTR3 title.

I'mma keep it 150 on a stack bruh, nobody wanted to work on their game because they all knew, Forza pulls in all the arcade racing game's money. The pictures they kept "teasing" us with were probably rFactor 2 with some custom PP filters.

I think pp filter looks absolutely amazing! Any idea what it could be?

Western societies in general including UK usually enjoy much lower levels of lies and scams than others (not naming names, just say others). It breaks my heart to learn this story about a business faking and lying to people for years.
Lets keep it in context, I am sure that was not their intention and they never took any money and no customer is out of pocket.

To be honest, it's not even a big deal at this point. We are at a point of time in history where we actually are quite showered with choice of sims. ACC already scratches that GT3 sim itch, anything else can be found on AMS2 or even AC and rF2

Now that the joke is finally over...... Sector3 needs to suck up what ever employees are left from simbin UK and put to use all that Raceroom placeholder content they were using and get Raceroom on a new engine.

I don't get the bullying comments from some of us here. It will be a sad news if SimBIn UK is actually going bust. Even when there are no original crews in there, it is always a sad news for me to hear a race sim dev going bust. The fact that they fought over the past years for the GTR3 is amazing, too bad things didn't go well for them and the title they're intended to release.
Good to know that the team is currently working with Sector3 to bring R3E to a "hopefully" better game engine.

Would... that even be a good thing? I know they can get some good graphics out of it but i dont think it would be good in terms of physics.
How would anyone think Unreal games can only apply Unreal's physics engine rather than using game's own physics engine...

pity, hope the name resurfaces in a better way some other day, like for Bram, it still evokes very fond memories for me.

Well ..... it was expected. Long time ago.

And Simbin was way too late with a GT-focussed racing sim. And to be honest ... the simracing market is almost oversaturrated with fantastic GT cars. You can drive GT3 or GTE cars in every current sim. iRacing, rF2, AC, ACC, AMS2, Raceroom. I don't know what a GTR³ would add to the scene.

Couple years back I recall asking fairly basic questions about the state of GTR 3 on here, and one of the high ups from SimBin UK came into the thread bashing me and anyone else who doubted the project as vindictive trolls.

I remember thinking it was quite arrogant for someone who 1) didn't have a game ready to show us, 2) hardly had a staff, and 3) didn't have any licensing deals done.

Now I kind of understand why he had a hard time answering said questions and began to be a bit snarky.

To me it's always come across as a sort of inverted project. It seems like they announced the game, it only existed in their minds or on paper, used the positive chatter on RD to lure in investors, and then hoped to actually hiring staff to build the game once the funds were in the account.

I think the problem they ran into, is they couldn't actually find investors. They then had to spend years saving face pretending the project was in development, when it wasn't. It's likely it existed as this weird secondary arm of Sector 3, a few people here and there tasked with running the Discord or posting on the socials purely for optics, with NDA's and other non-disparagement garbage preventing the truth from getting out.

In the likelihood it did exist - let's be honest crazier stuff has happened - there's no way it would have held a candle to ACC anyways. They were making, for all intents and purposes, the exact same game.

The saddest thing is that the game actually exists, and it's quite pretty. Things don't always go the way we'd like them to... :(

In short, in the early days it was credible, then over time it became a ridiculous mockery. It was clear that in the end everything would be reduced to a puff of smoke with the advance of competition such as Assetto Corsa Competizione and Automobilista 2 and the like. The terrain where to operate was really narrow, then after the FIA also announced the release of its own WEC game, the possibilities were practically reduced to a flicker. Eventually the departure of the company and the non-renewal of the appointment as CEO by Christopher Joseph set the tombstone. Too bad, memories and personal victories on the glorious GTR2 will remain. :( :(

because people generally have no idea what a "game engine" even is. Had that discussion recently on reddit, with a person thinking Engine=SDK

Honestly it's just a name(and fond memories) at this point, i'm a gullible idiot but not enough to have great expectations because the name Simbin is attached to anything(which never materializes).
Pull the plug already and let it rest.
