Kunos Simulazioni Sends 93-Year-Old Sim Racer a Gift

A popular 93-year-old former cab and dump truck driver turned sim racer has been given a care package from sim racing developer Kunos Simulazioni.

Millions of people have already watched the heartwarming video of a 93-year-old retired man enjoying racing games, and now Assetto Corsa developer Kunos Simulazioni has sent over a gift.

Assetto Corsa’s official Twitter account tweeted a new video from the Olivin.corp. YouTube account, with the video thumbnail showing the man and his grandson posing with Assetto Corsa boxes in front of their G923 wheel.

We first heard about the Sim Racing Grandpa in December of 2020 thanks to a video posted by his grandson to his YouTube channel. The original video is fast approaching 4,000,000 views. It shows the Japanese man enjoying himself driving on his Logitech G29 in the comfort of his home, since he surrendered his real driver’s license seven years ago.

A new video posted on July 16th shows the man and his grandson receiving a package from Italy. Inside the package were some nice gifts from Assetto Corsa developer Kunos Simulazioni. Kunos had sent keychains, t-shirts, and hats, each in duplicate so that both grandpa and grandson could enjoy them.

Midway through the video we see the nonagenarian smiling while wearing the new, bright red shirt and black hat each branded with Assetto Corsa logos.

The package sent by Kunos also contained a letter from Kunos co-founder and Executive Manager Marco Massarutto. In this letter, Marco not only expresses appreciation for the enduring passion shown by the grandfather, but also adds a personal note that the popular video made him “feel a great closeness to Urabe-San", since he drove a cab in Rome before moving into game development.

The letter closed with (blurred) Steam keys for a large collection of Kunos products, so the two can continue to enjoy themselves with Kunos products in the future.

This is another chapter in a fascinating story that shows not only what sim racing can mean to us as individuals, but also how our shared hobby and passion can bring us together.

What a warm and inspirational story! At almost 78 years old now myself, I know my involvement in sim racing over the last almost 20 years has helped keep me young at heart. I will check back when I reach my 90's and share more of my story. In the meantime, is there a senior league somewhere I should know about?

Bravo dear Japanese "colleague", Keep having fun, have fun! It's good to see that people your age know how to stay "young".
I intend to do as you do if God gives me life.
I started my second life with Grand Prix De Geoff Grammond on an Amiga 500 in 92 and like many I have seen the evolution of our passion, I hope to be so amazed by the developments that await us.

Great gesture Kunos.

My dad is 74 and drives Assetto and AMS. I set up my old rig for him. He's a retired city planning engineer, but always loved cars. He's not fast of course, but faster than just about anyone I've seen try sim racing for the first time. Able to race AI without incidents and catch slides etc.

He says TV makes him sleepy, but that never happens with sim racing lol

Not an attempt to get anyone to send him stuff lol... just to say, old sim racers are out there. It's a gaming genre that is really intuitive to comprehend for someone with IRL license. Where as other game genres may seem nonsensical

Is it just me but Kunos could've opened the wallet a bit more and given the gentleman a better gift. If you're going to give a gift and jump on the publicity of it at least buy the Gentleman a new rig and a copy of AMS2. My estimation of Kunos has now gone down - a pad locked wallet isn't a great look. I call on Kunos to do the right thing and give more. This is an outrageous gesture from them. Their mothers should be ashamed of them! :poop:

What a great human interest story. It's so nice to see the joy on there faces and the bond they have together.

Kunos is a class act and continue to show us why so many sim drivers love the company and the personnel that work so hard to give us great quality content.

So cool to see him driving, specially when he gave up his license. It means he really didn't give it up at all, at least virtually anyways.
Plus it'll help him keep his reaction times up too. Maybe try VR as well If he can.
Kudos to Kunos !
