Straight4 Studios Joins Forces with Reiza Studios

Straight4 Studios Reiza Studios Partnership.jpg
After reassembling most of the team from the GTR and GTR2 days, Straight4 Studios is working on a successor to the popular series of sims under the working title of GTR Revival. Now, the developer has secured the support of a dedicated studio: Reiza and Straight4 confirmed a strategic partnership.

As Reiza is using the MADNESS Engine for Automobilista 2, the link to Straight4 CEO Ian Bell becomes clear: Bell was behind the Project CARS franchise for which the engine was created, establishing contact with Reiza CEO Renato Simioni - and the two studios have been talking for quite a while, as it turns out.

"Renato and I have been discussing this possibility for a long time, going back to when they were creating Automobilista 2", states Bell. "All of us at Straight4 were enormously impressed with what Renato and his studio were able to create in terms of feel and handling with Automobilista 2."

"Easy Decision for Reiza"

Simioni explains why the two studios finally came together: "Our studios have always ended up on varying projects at varying times, delaying any kind of decision. Finally, with Ian and his team working hard on their upcoming game, the time was right for us to join forces." The Brazilian liked what he has seen so far for Straight4's effort. "Having seen inside the new project Straight4 is working made this an easy decision fo Reiza to sign up to a project we believe is going to be the next great sim racing title."

A promising alliance, especially considering Straight4's patented AI-based commentary and race engineer system that was first demoed using Automobilista 2 and Project CARS 2. "Combining our studio's talents is exciting news for all of us at Straight4, and I'm really confident this will also be fantastic news for the sim racing industry as a whole", says Bell.

What this means for the ongoing development of AMS2 is not yet clear. However, Simioni promises updates very soon: "We'll have further news on our portfolio of games for our fans in the next few days."

The upcoming title of the now joint effort is set to be released on PC as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X & S and will be published by PLAION.

Hold on a minute, so Reiza can't even finish one game, working on it for years now, and now they are going to work on a totally different one?... that doesn't sound that good to me.
What's unfinished about it? Do sims games ever get finished these days? Everything current is still getting updates. Rfactor2 isn't finished, same with ACC, iRacing, Raceroom. AC is an ongoing modders labour of love.

You know very well what i mean. AMS2 main selling point for some was the fact that was a "work in progress" with full atention from Reiza to improve it and fulfill it's potential. So now what? Will they divide their atention accross two games? Will AMS2 get any atention at all going forward? Will all the plans for it that were announced be fulfilled? This is what i am asking.

Wow. That makes this much more interesting. I don't think Reiza would want to be caught up in Bell's drama so they may bring a little bit of gravitas and commitment to the product.

Nice doomsday naysayer approach to this. They've already put the work into updating/fixing some of the problems the madness engine had. In order to share their knowledge and work, they have partnered. This is good for us. Better use of pooled knowledge and ability benefits us all. You act as though they will just move every Reiza employee to GTR Revival when you/we know that's just not the truth.

I am not being naysayer, i am asking questions. Given the fact that i don't know about the Reiza staff increasing, and that the article is sparse on details, what this all means in the long run?

You say they fixed some of the problems, sure, but i am not talking about what has been done, i am talking about what needs to be done still.

@Yannik Haustein , you haven't been bad, have you? (See Youtube video description ;-) )

I'm a bit hopeful, but also hesitant. Time will tell if this cooperation will be good for us customers...

i don't trust Ian Bell at all, or any company "partnering" with him, reiza have gone from excellent reputation and physics with AMS1 to questionable physics and a little less reputation with AMS2 because of one "partnership" with ian bell, why the hell would they do it again?
Thats your opinion about their reputation. Reiza have done things with the madness engine that the folk at Slightly Mad Studios couldn't, with a team much smaller than SMS'. AMS1 was only a continuation of an aged engine which was perfected by Reiza, just as they're doing now with the Madness Engine.

Just to add, you call them questionable physics. But what's realistic? Have you ever driven a V8 Supercar or a DPi? Guess not yet you claim to know what's right and what's wrong

Straight4's patented AI-based commentary and race engineer system that was first demoed using Automobilista 2 and Project CARS 2.“.
The demo in the YT video is terrible… bla bla bla… very tiring. Does also sound scripted and not AI generated. But saying it is AI generated is very trendy of course.

The combination of both studios can be interesting though. I still wish PC2 with all its great content would get the physics and FFB updates that Reiza did for AMS2. SMS pulled the plug on PC2 way too fast! But maybe that can now be incorporated in the new game.

Going into business with Ian Bell is a big risk for Reiza’s very good reputation though. Let’s hope for something positive this time from Mr. Bell…

I don’t think they partnered with Ian Bell on AMS 2 they licensed the engine and had some initial support, thats about it. I’m not a fan of Ian Bell and the Madness engine has its limitations but developing a racing sim engine isn’t the easiest job in the world and this could actually be an interesting blend of talent. They are using Unreal Engine 5 this time so any hangover from the Madness engine shouldn’t be a factor.
