15 Years Already? Four Great Racing Titles Released in 2008

GTR Evolution.jpg
Racing games and sims are built with endless hours of replayability in mind these days, but they are not released as frequently as they used to be – if that is for the better or the worse of the genre is up for debate. 15 years ago, this was different, but 2008 did not just spawn a bunch of low-quality titles – in fact, a few still hold up well to this day.

The racing world was much different in 2008: Lewis Hamilton only became a Formula One World Champion by the end of that season, taking his first of seven titles, the FIA GT Series was still in full swing before trying to become a World Championship (and subsequently folding), and open-top prototypes were still the car to have at Le Mans.

Interestingly, no new F1 games were released that year, as Codemasters only started their series in 2009 with a Wii-only version and previous rights owner Sony had last made a game in 2006. However, that does not mean there was not plenty of vehicles and tracks to race – and one title even is an important cornerstone of the sim racing genre to this day.

Find the error :roflmao:

Are there any players from this community who have been playing Iracing since 2008?

Is there a game time counter available since 2008? If so, how much time do you spend on it?

Or how much money did you spend on it?

Burnout Paradise was terrible. No way to disable the takedown camera and because of that you could never do a double or triple takedown like you could in previous games, no more proper crash mode, the new cars you got were too fast and repetition of going to the same 8 or how many points on the map, stunt mode easy to exploit by going to a location with jumps and bllboards for easy point multipliers ... i miss the old Takedown and Revenge games.

I opted in the beta programme (advertised on BHmotorsports) and I received my code some two weeks before the public release. I felt like the chosen one! My first honest impression was 'this is NR2003' but the FFB was way more advanced. Man, I feel old now...

I don't really play iRacing nowadays, it doesn't fit my budget but I renew my sub every now and then only to see the progression.

GTR Evolution
iRacing
Honorable Mention: Euro Truck Simulator

Which one of the above titles adopted the most successful business model? Which one of those titles is still as relevant today--or even more relevant--than when it launched?

With millions of copies sold I fear you are underestimating how popular the Euro Truck Sims are :)

Almost, but unfortunately lack the time to proper dive into it in recent years. Soon again, I hope.

What the current generation of simmers feel for ACC today I feel when I see GTR Evolution, just hearing the sound of that trailer brings back so many great great racing memories. Thanks Yannik :inlove:

I started Sim Racing with Race07 and the following DLC´s. At this time we had our own league and also spent hours on public servers. This was such a great time with so many great guys . Life and years changes, but I will never forget it.

I started with "Indycar Racing", then "Grand Prix Legends" > "rFactor" > "GT Legends" . "GTR2" > "iRacing" > "rFactor2" > "GTR Evo" > "Race" Series > "ACC" etc., etc.. A never ending parade of software, but no complaints from me.
