Fanatec Confirms Partnership with Gran Turismo

Fanatec Gran Turismo Partnership 001.jpg
Sim hardware developer Fanatec has announced it will partner with Gran Turismo to “see the two entities work together to develop new racing peripherals that will use advanced force-feedback technology.”

Continuing their run of exciting news in the sim racing world, Fanatec has now confirmed it will be developing hardware for the Gran Turismo series in partnership with PlayStation Studios and game developer Polyphony Digital.

The partnership announcement comes not far removed from the pre-sales of the much-anticipated CSL DD wheel based from Fanatec. The €349 direct drive wheelbase has caused a lot of stir in the sim racing community with its aggressive pricing. The details of the hardware Fanatec intends to provide as part of the Gran Turismo partnership is not known yet, but a Playstation compatible version of the CSL DD seems the most likely candidate.

The news could pose a challenge to one of Fanatec’s hardware rivals, Thrustmaster. Thrustmaster has been the official hardware supplier for the FIA Gran Turismo Championship series in recent years, with contestants using their T-GT wheel and pedal set. In late June of this year, Thrustmaster announced their T-GT II wheel and pedal set, which once again carried the Gran Turismo logo and looked to be the leading candidate for Gran Turismo 7’s official competition wheel on the Playstation 5. It remains to be seen whether developer Polyphone Digital will choose Fanatec or Thrustmaster hardware for future tournaments.

The news came to us via an official press release from Fanatec and their social media channels. The statement was brief, but Fanatec declared their "aim to reduce the distinction between sim racing and real-world racing." No release date was given as part of the announcement.

Gran Turismo Sport is the most recent release in the GT series. Despite nearing 5 years in age, the title still enjoys enormous popularity, with concurrent player counts still close to 200,000. GT Sport was released in 2017 and should be succeeded by Gran Turismo 7 in 2022. The next title in the series is expected to be released on both the Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 consoles.

What do you think of this announcement? Would a comparatively inexpensive direct drive wheel for Playstation interest you? Let us know in the comments below.

Then why comment out of unfamiliarity with it?
What sims do you drive in?
Because I can. What other "unfamiliarity" - its nonsense. :D
I've already explained quite clearly above that I don't take the GT Sport seriously and that I don't see the point of these wheels, and if it makes sense to someone else - ok, I don't care.
Above, there have already been enough of those who have been offended by the fact that their own opinions are not the absolute truth.

What is the relevance? Maybe RF2, or maybe I'm a fan of PC3 and Ian Bell's masterpieces - that has nothing to do with the topic. Do you really want to engage in sophistry?

See, "because I can" out of not taking "GT Sport seriously" is sophism by itself. It's a bad-faith argument. There's not else there besides "I don't like it".
Not only GTSport makes sense with a wheel, it makes as much sense with a wheel as any other racing title. Far more than a dual-shock.

You are confusing good integration with a peripheral (as in developers actually caring for those who don't have a wheel and are a good part of their player base) with "this game doesn't need a steering wheel".

The relevance is simple really. If you are commenting out of ignorance or disdain, it's to understand the starting point for that comment.

"You're a sophist yourself" is a first-class argument. There is no point in going any further, all the questions have already been answered. Some even twice.

There was no point to even start with your line of debate as it is absolutely bad faith while accusing others of sophistry when they are trying to understand what's your basis for saying what you've said. But here we are.
Let people enjoy things.

Next time, try starting the question with the correct form and maybe you'll get a similar answer. In the meantime, I have more than substantively answered the form of a similar question.

Let them enjoy it - it's none of my business.

Why are you so negative , just let others be excited about what they like. You don't need to be so rude.

Considering GT sport is going to be an olympic esport moving forward it seems like a really positive move by Fanatec to tap a potentially huge market across many regions... good on them. As others have stated a wheel is hardly a requirement, there are some ridiculously fast pad racers out there. However many of us like to use them for immersion and the feel of driving factor. My stance has always been if it makes you happy and your enjoying your racing that is all that matters.

Come on, no - only the last post is negative and only because I'm trying to make the information as simple and accessible as possible. Everything else is an opinion which you may or may not agree with, but trying to change mind based on the fact that someone thinks you are wrong - is a frankly absurd idea.

If I was trying to convince someone that RF2 is a great simulator, my fingers would be wiped off the keyboard by now.

But in any case, I heard your recommendation.

Another good news, even though I don't give a bolt about Gran Turismo, this is indeed good news.
Keeps getting better every day

The Leaked Image of the Fanatec Wheel for GT looks weird though. It reminds me off, +created a wheel, We forgot, we have to add console Buttons lets add them randomly anywhere

Why does this game need a steering wheel?
I think you've meant to ask why does a game need to have an endorsed wheel.

To a great extent, I am not sure why a game needs to make such an endorsement. In the end it would mean there's some sort of exclusive tech on the official wheel, that cannot be utilized by anyone other than the official game. Also having an endorsed wheel pushes the idea that the customers need to upgrade their wheels when the new title comes out. To me its all marketing bullshit. Especially if there's exclusive features on the official wheel that isn't supported by any other title.

Also I don't think Romandevision originally intended to say "why do we need a wheel, because controller". Thats a little absurd but I see why everyone went there. LOL

Now give it also full PSVR2 support and you'll sell me a PS5 immediately. I have been looking for a good, casual street car racer with VR and good wheel support for just too long (AC has ticked the box until now, but even including mods the street car stuff finally dries out)
