The official Twitter account for Assetto Corsa has tweeted support for Peugeot and their forthcoming 9X8 WEC Hypercar and confirmed a collaboration between the racing sim and the auto manufacturer.

Today’s tweet has led many in the sim racing community to speculate on what a partnership between Assetto Corsa and Peugeot could entail long term. The video simply notes for now that the 9X8 was “PRODUCED IN COLLABORATION WITH” Assetto Corsa.

The video showed close ups of a rain soaked 9X8 Hypercar, both at rest and in motion down a nondescript track. The presence of rain on the car was noteworthy, as rain was only added into the first Assetto Corsa via third party mods.

The tweet comes two days after Peugeot revealed its entry for the World Endurance Championship's Le Mans Hypercar series. The Peugeot 9X8 looks to be one of the entries in the inaugural season of the Hypercar series, battling cars from Toyota and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus. The 9X8 features a hybrid powertrain, including a twin-turbo 2.6L V6 engine and 200kW electric motor. We should see the notably wingless car in action in 2022.

The teaser didn’t give us anything to go on as far as what to expect of this partnership in the future, if anything. Fan speculation ranges from the WEC series being added to Assetto Corsa Competizione in an upcoming DLC, to Kunos’ involvement with Peugeot concluding with the 9X8 development.

The former is highly unlikely given that Kunos’ sights will be set on the development of the next title by the time real world data is available to develop a sim version of the WEC Hypercars. The latter is a more realistic scenario and could possibly even lead to Peugeot releasing an official mod of the 9X8 for Assetto Corsa, like what we’ve seen from manufacturers like Ferrari and KTM.
